Meta Platforms is reportedly exploring a strategic move to temporarily integrate artificial intelligence models from rivals Google and OpenAI into its own AI offerings, including the Meta AI chatbot and other applications. This consideration, first reported by The Information website on August 31, 2025, underscores the intensifying competition within the generative AI landscape.
A Meta spokesperson confirmed the company’s “all-of-the-above approach,” indicating a dual strategy of advancing its proprietary Llama models while also exploring external collaborations and diverse AI solutions. Any potential integration of external models would be a temporary measure, primarily aimed at accelerating the evolution of Meta’s Llama models and maintaining its competitive edge in the rapidly evolving market.
This move comes as Meta intensifies its efforts to catch up in the AI race. The company’s internal engineers are already leveraging Anthropic AI models for code-assisted development, demonstrating a willingness to utilize external technologies where beneficial.
Beyond potential external model integration, Meta is making significant investments in its in-house capabilities. The company has established a dedicated “Superintelligence Lab” (also known as Meta Superintelligence Labs or MSL) with the ambitious goal of developing AI systems capable of human or superhuman-level intelligence. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has committed “hundreds of billions” of dollars to this long-term endeavor, emphasizing Meta’s unique position to deliver superintelligence due to its vast user base, robust hardware, and flexible corporate structure.
