Roy Lurie, Vice President of Engineering at MathWorks, emphasized the company’s long-standing commitment to enabling users to focus on core engineering and scientific challenges rather than programming intricacies. “MATLAB Copilot continues our longstanding approach of helping our users focus on engineering and science, not programming,” Lurie stated. He added that by embedding generative AI into existing MATLAB workflows, the tool strengthens MATLAB and Simulink as a premier platform for innovation, empowering millions of professionals globally to design and build advanced engineered systems.
The AI assistant offers a suite of intelligent features categorized into three core pillars to support users throughout their development journey:
Chat and Learn: Users can engage with MATLAB Copilot through a built-in chat interface, posing questions and receiving accurate, context-aware answers. These responses are sourced directly from MathWorks documentation and real-world code examples, allowing users to quickly access trusted information without leaving their workflow.
Code Smarter: This feature accelerates coding by providing predictive autocompletions and intelligent code suggestions. Furthermore, it can generate entire code blocks from natural language descriptions, enabling faster development and more efficient prototyping.
Understand and Improve: MATLAB Copilot assists in interpreting and refining code by explaining unfamiliar logic, adding comments, clarifying error messages, and even generating tests using MATLAB Test.
