Lumana Secures $40 Million to Advance AI-Powered Video Surveillance

TLDR: Lumana, a leader in AI video security solutions, has successfully closed a $40 million Series A funding round. This investment, led by Wing Venture Capital with continued support from existing investors Norwest Venture Partners and S Capital, brings Lumana’s total funding to $64 million. The capital will be used to accelerate market expansion and further innovate its AI-native video surveillance platform, which transforms standard security cameras into intelligent, context-aware systems capable of real-time threat detection and automated responses.

Lumana AI Inc., a pioneering startup focused on automating video surveillance through artificial intelligence, has announced a significant milestone with the closure of its $40 million Series A funding round. This latest infusion of capital, spearheaded by Wing Venture Capital and bolstered by existing investors Norwest Venture Partners LP and S Capital VC Management Ltd., elevates the company’s total funding to an impressive $64 million, including a $24 million seed round in April 2024.

The company’s core mission is to revolutionize how businesses monitor physical environments by transforming conventional security cameras into highly intelligent and context-aware recognition systems. Lumana’s platform leverages specialized vision-language models (VLMs) paired with agentic AI capabilities, enabling video feeds to become proactive participants in safety and security operations. This advanced technology allows for the identification of threats, understanding of human behavior, and even the initiation of automated responses to incidents in real-time.

According to Lumana founder and Chief Executive Sagi Ben Moshe, “We’re building the infrastructure for cameras to perceive, understand context and take action, not just watch.” The system is designed to detect a wide array of incidents, including violence, theft, fire, unauthorized access, and safety violations, with the capability to generate alerts even before these events fully materialize.

A key differentiator for Lumana is its integration of AI agents. These specialized AI systems are capable of automating various security and safety-related tasks and workflows without direct human intervention. Lumana’s intelligent AI agents are tailored for specific roles such as identification, tracking, compliance monitoring, and safety enforcement, making operational decisions autonomously. Furthermore, these agents can be seamlessly integrated with third-party safety and security systems.

The $40 million Series A funding will primarily fuel Lumana’s go-to-market strategies and accelerate product innovation. The company plans to expand its presence in the U.S. market and bolster its research and development center in Israel, addressing the escalating demand for advanced AI-enhanced security solutions. The global market for AI in video surveillance is projected to more than double to $14.6 billion in the next four years, with video analytics technology expected to more than triple, reaching $69 billion by 2028. Lumana aims to capitalize on this growth by helping organizations unlock greater value from their existing infrastructure, transforming passive cameras into intelligent, proactive tools.
