Knorr-Bremse, a global leader in braking systems for rail and commercial vehicles, has officially inaugurated its new Global AI Center in Chennai, India. This strategic move, announced on July 29, 2025, marks a pivotal advancement in the company’s comprehensive digital transformation efforts aimed at boosting efficiency and performance across its global operations.

The Chennai center is set to become a hub for artificial intelligence innovation within Knorr-Bremse. Following a ramp-up phase commencing in August 2025, approximately 70 experts will be dedicated to developing cutting-edge AI solutions. The initial focus will be on creating AI agents designed to automate accounting processes, streamline agile software development, and optimize administrative tasks. These AI agents are software programs capable of independently breaking down complex tasks into manageable steps and executing them, promising significant gains in efficiency and speed.

Marc Llistosella, CEO of Knorr-Bremse AG, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “A core objective of our BOOST strategy program is to increase the efficiency and performance of our organization. As part of this, we are also taking our entire global processes to a new level. Our new AI center in Chennai is a targeted investment in artificial intelligence, whose application to operational processes will make an important contribution to the digital transformation of Knorr-Bremse. As the global market leader, we want to be a frontrunner in the industrial use of AI, improving, accelerating, and completely rethinking numerous processes, working methods, and approaches.”

This environment is considered ideal for harnessing the potential of generative AI to develop flexible, company-specific solutions.
