KDDI Unveils AI-Powered Smart Space Design Service for Global Expansion

TLDR: KDDI has launched its ‘KDDI Smart Space Design’ service, offering end-to-end support for integrating communications, robotics, and AI into workspaces and public venues in Japan and Southeast Asia. The service, available from August 19, 2025, aims to streamline design and construction processes, and will feature a free generative AI tool from fiscal 2026 to automate office layout planning, reducing a month-long task to just 15 minutes.

KDDI Corporation officially launched its ‘KDDI Smart Space Design’ service on August 19, 2025, targeting businesses in Japan and Southeast Asia. This innovative solution provides comprehensive, end-to-end support for the planning, design, construction, and operation of various spaces, including offices, warehouses, factories, shopping centers, retail stores, and stadiums. The core objective is to seamlessly integrate advanced technologies such as communications, robotics, and artificial intelligence (AI) from the initial concept phase.

Traditionally, companies often face significant challenges when incorporating new technologies, as telecommunications providers or technology partners are typically engaged only after initial designs are complete. This conventional approach frequently leads to costly redesigns, delays, and even the inability to implement desired technologies due to insufficient infrastructure like electrical wiring for Wi-Fi or inadequate routes for robots. KDDI’s new model addresses these issues by embedding technology considerations from the outset, thereby minimizing rework and ensuring smoother adoption of digital systems.

Drawing on its extensive experience from its headquarters at Takanawa Gateway City, where it has piloted ‘Hyper-Performance experiences’ and ‘Hyper-Personal experiences,’ KDDI aims to enhance both worker productivity and visitor satisfaction. Examples of these advanced implementations include delivery robots capable of navigating security gates and elevators, AI-driven personalization of services, and real-time visualization of floor congestion.

A significant highlight of the new service is KDDI’s plan to introduce, free of charge from fiscal 2026, a generative AI tool. This tool, a first in Japan according to KDDI’s research as of August 19, 2025, will automate multi-vendor furniture and equipment selection, as well as office space zoning, layout, and estimation. This groundbreaking AI is projected to reduce a task that typically takes about one month to as little as 15 minutes. Furthermore, it will enable 3D reviews of layouts, offering a clear visualization of the completed space.
