JetBrains Survey Reveals 85% of Developers Regularly Integrate AI into Workflows

TLDR: A 2025 survey by JetBrains, encompassing 24,534 developers across 194 countries, indicates that 85% of developers now regularly use AI tools for coding and development. The report highlights significant productivity gains, with 62% relying on AI coding assistants that save most users at least an hour weekly. Despite widespread adoption, concerns persist regarding AI’s inconsistent quality, security, and impact on developer skills.

The landscape of software development is undergoing a rapid transformation, with Artificial Intelligence emerging as a pivotal force. According to the comprehensive ‘State of Developer Ecosystem 2025’ survey conducted by JetBrains, a staggering 85% of developers are now regularly incorporating AI tools into their daily coding and development processes. This extensive study, which gathered insights from 24,534 developers across 194 countries between April and June 2025, underscores AI’s pervasive integration into the industry.

A significant portion of this adoption is driven by AI coding assistants, with 62% of developers relying on these tools. The benefits are tangible and immediate: nearly nine out of ten developers report saving at least an hour every week, and a remarkable one in five saves eight hours or more – the equivalent of an entire workday. This efficiency gain is leading to a shift in industry expectations, as 68% of developers anticipate that employers will soon mandate proficiency in AI tools.

Despite the widespread embrace, a notable 15% of developers have yet to adopt AI tools. Their hesitancy is attributed to various factors, including skepticism, security concerns, or simply personal preference, representing a counter-current to the mainstream trend.

Developers are strategically leveraging AI for repetitive and less creative tasks. The top activities they are most likely to delegate to AI include writing boilerplate code, searching for development-related information, converting code to other languages, writing code comments or documentation, and summarizing recent code changes. Conversely, developers prefer to maintain control over more creative and complex tasks, such as debugging and designing application logic.

However, this enthusiasm is tempered by significant concerns. The top five reservations reported by respondents include the inconsistent quality of AI-generated code, AI tools’ limited understanding of complex code and logic, privacy and security risks, the potential negative impact on their own coding and development skills, and AI’s lack of context awareness.

The survey also shed light on broader industry trends. TypeScript continues its dramatic rise in real-world usage, while Rust, Go, and Kotlin show steady gains. Conversely, languages like PHP, Ruby, and Objective-C are experiencing a steady decline. The focus on developer productivity is evolving, moving beyond traditional DORA metrics to emphasize developer experience, internal collaboration, communication, and clarity. While 51% of developers highlight technical factors, 62% stress non-technical elements as critical to their performance. A notable 66% of developers feel that current metrics do not accurately reflect their true contributions.
