TLDR: Iranian robotics and earth science teams have achieved significant success at the 2025 Federation of International RoboSports Association (FIRA) RoboWorld Cup in South Korea and the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) in China. The robotics team secured 11 awards, including multiple championships, while the earth science participants earned four bronze medals.

Iranian delegations have demonstrated exceptional prowess on the global stage, securing numerous accolades at two prestigious international competitions: the Federation of International RoboSports Association (FIRA) RoboWorld Cup and the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) 2025. The events, held in South Korea and China respectively, concluded with Iranian teams bringing home a total of 15 awards.

The FIRA RoboWorld Cup and Summit 2025, hosted in Daegu, South Korea, from August 11 to 15, saw the Iranian robotics team clinch an impressive 11 awards. This year marked the 30th anniversary of the FIRA RoboWorld Cup, which attracted 900 robot prospects from 17 countries, including major players like the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, Russia, China, Taiwan, and Brazil. The competition featured 46 events across four distinct leagues: the ‘Sports League’ focusing on autonomous bipedal walking robots, the ‘Challenge League’ for autonomous vehicles and start-up innovations, the ‘Air League’ involving indoor disaster rescue using drones, and the ‘Youth League’ for creative tasks by young participants.

Iranian teams showcased their dominance by securing five championships across the Air League, Sport League (for students under 19), Challenge League, and Youth League. Furthermore, they earned four runner-up positions and two third-place finishes in categories such as autonomous vehicles, youth creative tasks, and the Sport League.

A significant highlight of the FIRA event was a ‘summit’ held on August 14, which brought together 250 domestic and international robot researchers and students. Discussions at the summit focused on critical topics including robot and artificial intelligence (AI)-related policies and international technical standards, underscoring the event’s role in advancing the field of robotics and AI.
