A staggering 93% of Indian business leaders intend to utilize AI agents to expand workforce capabilities within the next 12 to 18 months. This aggressive adoption rate underscores a strategic reset in the way work is structured across the nation. Furthermore, 90% of Indian leaders consider 2025 a pivotal year to re-evaluate core strategies and operations, marking the highest proportion globally, emphasizing a shift from incremental changes to foundational reinvention.
‘Frontier Firms’ – India’s most forward-looking organizations – are at the forefront of this AI-driven transformation. These companies are not merely adopting AI but are actively redesigning their operations to foster human-AI collaboration. The report notes that 59% of leaders in these firms are already deploying AI agents to automate workstreams and business processes across entire teams, signaling a move towards fluid, adaptive organizational structures.
Productivity gains are a primary driver for this shift, with nearly two-thirds (64%) of leaders prioritizing them. Puneet Chandok, President, Microsoft India & South Asia, commented on India’s readiness, stating, ‘India is firmly in its AI-first era, with AI agility accelerating at an unprecedented pace. We’re seeing a workforce that’s not just adopting AI, but embedding it into the fabric of everyday operations to drive transformation.’ He further added that AI is emerging as a ‘thought partner,’ fostering creativity, accelerating decision-making, and reshaping collaboration.

Organizations are preparing for a new generation of AI-linked positions, with 92% of leaders considering adding AI-specific roles. Moreover, 57% expect teams to build multi-agent systems for complex task automation. Upskilling the workforce is deemed central to this transition, with 51% of leaders identifying it as a priority over the next 12-18 months, and 63% of managers believing AI training will become a core team responsibility within the next five years.
