A new report released on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, by the prominent job site Indeed, reveals a significant trend in the Indian workforce: nearly 43% of workers express confidence in their ability to adopt generative and agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in their work within the next two to five years. The comprehensive survey, which included over 3,000 white and blue-collar workers across India, sheds light on varying levels of readiness and motivation across different age groups.
The study found that mid-career professionals, specifically those aged between 35 and 54, demonstrate the highest level of confidence in navigating workplaces increasingly integrated with AI. Approximately 49% of this demographic reported their readiness, surpassing their younger counterparts aged 18 to 24. This enthusiasm among mid-career individuals is further underscored by their proactive approach to training; 56% of these professionals are actively seeking more training to ensure they remain future-ready, in contrast to only 41% of younger professionals who share this desire.
The motivations behind this widespread adoption of AI are multifaceted. Respondents indicated that they are embracing AI to enhance their employability, foster career progression, and secure future opportunities. The perception of AI extends beyond merely a productivity tool; it is increasingly viewed as a crucial skill that can lead to higher pay, promotions, and entirely new career avenues. Key drivers for AI adoption also include staying current with technological advancements and improving overall work efficiency.
Despite the prevailing optimism, the report also highlights a notable concern: nearly one-third of the surveyed workers expressed apprehension about job security if they fail to keep pace with rapid technological changes. Regarding the expected integration of AI tools, about 34% of respondents anticipate frequent use of generative AI tools in the near future. Furthermore, a quarter of the respondents expect the adoption of agentic AI tools, which are defined as AI systems capable of autonomously completing complex tasks.

Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales at Indeed India, commented on these findings, stating, “Mid-career professionals are actively seeking upskilling opportunities in AI to master it. The rise in interest around ‘agentic AI’ signals that we are at the beginning of a transformation, one where job seekers are not just responding to change, but leading it.” The report also noted that even within the blue-collar sector, 20% of workers are currently utilizing generative AI for tasks such as streamlining paperwork and enhancing customer service, indicating a broad impact of AI across various segments of the workforce.
