Indiana University is set to introduce ‘GenAI 101,’ a complimentary artificial intelligence course, this autumn. The initiative is designed to be accessible to all individuals holding an IU login, including students, faculty, and staff. The primary objective of this program is to furnish participants with crucial AI competencies, which are increasingly vital in today’s professional landscape, and to cultivate a future-ready workforce within the state of Indiana.
The curriculum for ‘GenAI 101’ is structured to accommodate learners without any prior experience in artificial intelligence, adopting a self-paced and practical approach. The course is divided into eight modules, encompassing a total of sixteen lessons. Each lesson emphasizes practical applications and incorporates high-quality visual aids to enhance the learning experience.

Upon completion, participants are expected to achieve proficiency in twenty key generative AI skills, categorized under three main areas. These include ‘Foundational Prompt Engineering,’ which focuses on the art of crafting effective instructions for AI models; ‘GenAI as a Thought Partner,’ exploring the use of AI for brainstorming and problem-solving; and ‘GenAI as a Productivity Amplifier,’ demonstrating how AI can be leveraged to boost efficiency. A significant feature of the course is ‘Crimson,’ a real-time, conversational AI learning agent designed to provide on-demand support to participants throughout their learning journey. The university’s vision for this initiative is to prepare students for successful careers and to contribute to the evolving economic demands of the state by establishing a strong foundation of Generative AI literacy across its entire community.
