TLDR: A recent Forrester report highlights India’s dominant position in generative AI adoption across the Asia-Pacific region, with 56% of city adults utilizing AI tools in 2025, a significant increase from 44% in 2024. The country also boasts the highest global AI knowledge levels, though a ‘trust paradox’ exists. This surge in AI adoption is a key driver for India’s projected 11% tech spending growth in 2025, reaching INR 5 trillion (USD 59 billion).
India has emerged as the undisputed leader in generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, with a striking 56% of urban adults actively engaging with AI tools in 2025. This represents a substantial increase from 44% in 2024, solidifying India’s frontrunner status, according to a recent report by Forrester.
The report, titled ‘Consumer Insights: Trust In AI In Asia Pacific, 2025’, underscores India’s profound understanding of AI, noting that approximately 63% of Indian adults claim to comprehend AI well. This figure significantly surpasses that of other APAC nations, such as Australia (18%) and Singapore (26%), and marks the lowest percentage worldwide (5%) for individuals who do not understand AI. Millennials, in particular, demonstrate exceptional AI literacy, with nearly 69% exhibiting a strong grasp of the technology.
Despite this high level of knowledge and adoption, the Forrester study identifies a ‘trust paradox’ within India. While many acknowledge the potential societal threats posed by AI, they simultaneously place considerable trust in information provided by AI systems.
This rapid embrace of generative AI is a major catalyst for India’s robust technology spending growth. Forrester’s ‘Asia Pacific Tech Market Forecast 2024-2028’ projects India’s tech spending to reach an impressive INR 5 trillion (approximately USD 59 billion) in 2025. This growth, initially forecasted at 11%, is fueled by strong enterprise investments, the government’s digitalization initiatives, and a surge in venture capital funding.
Ashutosh Sharma, VP and Research Director at Forrester, commented on this trend, stating, “India’s technology landscape is entering an unprecedented phase of growth and innovation. The rapid adoption of emerging technologies like generative AI will not only enhance productivity but also position India as a global leader in AI and tech talent.”
However, Sharma also highlighted critical challenges that India must navigate to fully capitalize on AI-driven opportunities and ensure sustainable economic growth. These include workforce upskilling, establishing clear regulatory frameworks, and addressing potential tariff implications.
The software market within the APAC region is expected to grow by 10.4% in 2025, with AI and cloud services being the primary drivers of demand. This aligns with India’s strategic focus on innovation and digital infrastructure modernization.

Government interventions have also played a role in shaping the AI landscape. In March 2024, India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology issued an advisory mandating that platforms and intermediaries ensure AI models do not facilitate unlawful content.
