Unveiled on August 14th and 15th, 2025, the Vive Eagle is initially exclusive to Taiwan, marking a strategic move by HTC to establish a comprehensive software and hardware ecosystem aimed at driving profitability and widespread adoption in the burgeoning AI glasses segment.
The Vive Eagle smart glasses are packed with an array of AI-powered functionalities, including voice interaction, advanced scene recognition, and real-time translation capabilities across 13 languages. The device supports leading large language models such as Google Gemini and ChatGPT, catering to diverse user preferences. Additional features encompass a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, built-in speakers for hands-free audio, and voice-activated reminders. The glasses are designed to facilitate high-computation services like location search, navigation, and restaurant reviews, seamlessly integrating AI into daily life.
Weighing a mere 49 grams, comparable to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, the Vive Eagle is positioned as a premium offering with a price tag of $520. HTC’s business model extends beyond mere hardware sales, focusing on creating a new AI glasses ecosystem that combines hardware, platforms, applications, and services. The company plans to open the AI glasses service platform API to third-party content developers, anticipating future revenue streams through subscription-based models for specific applications.
A cornerstone of HTC’s strategy is its partnership with Taiwan Mobile (TWM), which serves as the primary telecom partner for promoting the Vive Eagle. TWM is integrating devices, content, networks, and services by offering zero-cost subscription plans bundled with the AI glasses. These bundles include limited-time free access to ‘Vive AI Plus’ (HTC’s AI Q&A engine), Perplexity Pro, KKBox music streaming, and lens upgrade vouchers.
Industry data underscores the potential of this market. Global AI glasses shipments reportedly grew approximately 210% year-over-year in 2024, with a projected compound annual growth rate exceeding 60% through 2029. HTC’s entry into this segment positions it to compete directly with established players like Meta, which has seen its AI-powered Ray-Ban model surpass 2 million units sold.
