HCLTech is strategically ramping up its recruitment efforts for specialized talent, with a notable focus on artificial intelligence (AI) roles, as it aims to secure a competitive edge in the evolving technology landscape. The IT services giant is reportedly targeting 15% of its fresher hiring specifically for specialized and AI-centric positions, aligning with broader industry trends.
This intensified recruitment drive is complemented by a robust internal upskilling initiative. HCLTech has significantly exceeded its AI upskilling goals, training an impressive 106,000 employees in AI capabilities, which is more than double its initial target of 50,000 for the fiscal year 2024–25. Ramachandran Sundararajan, Chief Human Resources Officer at HCLTech, confirmed that AI capabilities will remain a core pillar of the company’s workforce development strategy as it prepares for a more digitally driven future.
In terms of recent hiring figures, HCLTech demonstrated strong growth in the fourth quarter of FY25, adding 2,665 employees, including 1,805 freshers. For the full financial year, the company onboarded 7,829 freshers, contributing to a year-over-year headcount increase of 4,061. As of March 2025, HCLTech’s total employee count stands at 223,420, with women representing 28.8% of its total workforce.
The company has also shown improvements in employee retention, reporting an attrition rate of 13%, a 24 basis-point improvement over the previous year. Sundararajan attributed this stabilized attrition rate to the company’s continuous upskilling initiatives, which enhance employee skills and career progression opportunities.

Furthermore, HCLTech is in the process of finalizing its 2024 compensation cycle, with new wage structures set to take effect in October 2024. As part of this cycle, the company announced a 7% salary hike, with top performers receiving increases between 12% and 15%. This comprehensive approach to talent management underscores HCLTech’s commitment to building a future-ready workforce capable of addressing the demands of advanced technological domains.
