Harvey AI Establishes Bengaluru Hub, Tapping into India’s Booming Legal Tech Market

TLDR: Harvey AI, a leading generative AI platform for the legal sector, is set to open its inaugural Indian office in Bengaluru later this year. This strategic expansion aims to leverage India’s robust talent pool and burgeoning legal technology market, housing engineering, sales, and operations teams to serve both domestic and international clients. The move follows a recent $300 million Series E funding round.

Harvey AI, a pioneering generative artificial intelligence platform tailored for the legal industry, has announced its plans to establish its first Indian office in Bengaluru. This significant expansion, slated for later this year, underscores the company’s commitment to global growth and its strategic focus on the rapidly evolving Indian legal technology landscape.

The new Bengaluru facility will serve as a critical hub, accommodating Harvey’s engineering, sales, and operations teams. These teams will be instrumental in supporting the company’s growing client base not only within India but also across its broader international operations. The decision to invest in Bengaluru is driven by the city’s reputation as a global tech hub and its access to an exceptional talent pool, which Harvey AI aims to harness to enhance its service capabilities within the Indian legal market.

India’s legal tech market is experiencing substantial growth, with projections indicating an annual expansion rate of 13.8 percent through 2035. This vibrant ecosystem, which already boasts over 650 legal tech startups, presents a compelling opportunity for Harvey AI to deepen its presence and cater to both domestic clients and global operations from India’s tech capital.

Harvey AI’s platform is designed to empower legal professionals by assisting with a diverse range of tasks, including contract drafting and review, comprehensive legal research, predictive analysis, and delivering data-driven insights for both contentious and advisory matters. The company has already forged key partnerships within India, collaborating with prominent law firms such as Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, S&A Law Offices, and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, which has adopted Harvey alongside other AI tools.

Globally, Harvey AI has established significant alliances, notably with Allen & Overy, which became the first law firm to form an exclusive partnership with the AI pioneer in 2023. This expansion into India follows a successful Series E fundraise, where Harvey AI recently secured $300 million, with Kleiner Perkins and Coatue leading the investment.

Winston Weinberg, Co-founder and CEO of Harvey, emphasized the strategic importance of this move, stating, ‘India is an essential part of our global strategy. By investing in Bengaluru, we’re tapping into an exceptional talent pool and deepening our ability to serve the Indian legal market.’

Harvey’s Bengaluru office is poised to collaborate with global teams, reinforcing how AI is reshaping legal work worldwide and positioning India as a crucial center for demonstrating the value of AI investments amidst evolving regulatory landscapes and business models.
