Eunice Huang, Google APAC’s head of AI and emerging technology policy, articulated this focus during a panel discussion at the Reuters NEXT Asia Summit in Singapore on Wednesday.
Huang emphasized the company’s philosophy regarding the nascent stages of AI development, stating, ‘As our chief executive has said, in these early days of a very transformative technology, the risks of under investing are dramatically higher than the risks of over investing.’ This perspective underscores Google’s commitment to building robust foundational capabilities to support its ambitious AI initiatives.
In line with this strategy, Google’s parent company, Alphabet, reaffirmed its commitment in April to invest approximately $75 billion this year. This significant capital outlay is earmarked for expanding data center capacity, a critical component for powering advanced AI models and services. This investment push comes despite ongoing market uncertainties, including concerns over U.S. tariffs, as the company remains confident in the returns generated by its AI endeavors.
