Google Unveils Agent Garden to Accelerate AI Agent Development

TLDR: Google has introduced Agent Garden, a collection of ready-to-use samples and tools integrated within its open-source Agent Development Kit (ADK). This initiative aims to simplify and accelerate the creation of sophisticated AI agents and multi-agent systems, making advanced AI development more accessible for developers and enterprises.

Google for Developers Blog has announced the launch of Agent Garden, a significant addition to the company’s efforts in advancing artificial intelligence. Agent Garden serves as a comprehensive collection of ready-to-use samples and tools, directly accessible within Google’s Agent Development Kit (ADK). This new resource is designed to empower developers by providing a streamlined pathway for learning, discovering, and building sophisticated AI agents and multi-agent systems.

The Agent Development Kit (ADK), an open-source framework, was initially released by Google in early 2025 with the vision of transforming AI agent development into a more structured software engineering discipline, moving away from purely experimental research. The ADK enables developers to create production-ready agents with remarkable simplicity, often requiring fewer than 100 lines of intuitive Python or Java code, with support for more languages anticipated.

One of the core strengths of the ADK, and by extension Agent Garden, is its flexibility and control. It offers precise mechanisms for developers to dictate how agents think, reason, and collaborate, utilizing deterministic guardrails and orchestration controls. The framework is not tethered to a single model, allowing compatibility with Google’s Gemini, Vertex AI models, or any model available through the Model Garden. Furthermore, it supports popular open-source frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, AG2, and Crew.ai, offering developers extensive choice and adaptability.

“The future of AI is agentic, and ADK helps you build that future today,” stated Joshua Berkowitz in a related article, highlighting the kit’s role in maturing AI agent development practices. The ADK provides flexible primitives that accommodate diverse approaches, from simple single-agent applications to complex multi-agent systems with specialized coordinators and task-specific workers.

Key features of the ADK include the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol, a universal communication standard that allows agents across different ecosystems and frameworks to interact seamlessly. The kit also boasts unique bidirectional audio and video streaming capabilities, facilitating human-like conversations with AI agents. Google has underscored its commitment to developer support with comprehensive documentation, quickstarts, tutorials, API references, and deployment guides.

Agent Garden is an integral part of the broader Vertex AI Agent Builder, Google Cloud’s open and comprehensive platform. This platform is designed to enable enterprises to rapidly build, scale, and govern enterprise-grade agents that are grounded in their proprietary data. Additionally, Google offers a Gen AI evaluation service within the Vertex AI SDK, allowing developers to measure an agent’s ability to effectively complete tasks and achieve specific goals.
