TLDR: Google has relaunched its popular Androidify tool, now enhanced with generative AI. Users can transform their selfies or text prompts into personalized Android-themed bots, complete with accessories and animated videos, leveraging advanced AI models like Gemini 2.5 Flash, Imagen, and Veo 3.
Google has officially brought back its beloved Androidify tool, reimagined with cutting-edge generative artificial intelligence, allowing users to transform their selfies or text prompts into unique Android-themed bots. The updated platform, which includes both an app and a website, was released in early September 2025, coinciding with the Android 16 QPR1 launch and the September 2025 Pixel Drop.
The new Androidify experience is powered by a sophisticated suite of Google’s AI models. Gemini 2.5 Flash is utilized to generate detailed captions from uploaded photos, while a fine-tuned version of Imagen 3 is responsible for creating the custom Android bot figurines, maintaining a ‘playful and stylized aesthetic.’ For an added layer of creativity, Veo 3, Google’s latest video generation model, can animate these bots into eight-second videos, a feature available to a limited number of creations each Friday in September.
Creating a personalized Android bot is a straightforward process. Users can begin by uploading a selfie or any photo they wish to transform. Alternatively, they can provide a text prompt to guide the AI in shaping their bot’s appearance and personality. Customization options extend to adding various accessories, such as umbrellas, goggles, or hats, and selecting a ‘vibe’ like Star Gazer, Gamer, or Jetsetter to imbue the bot with a distinct personality.
Google emphasizes the tool’s role in personal expression, stating, ‘the most important role has always been helping you express yourself, and this is just one of the many ways AI is helping us rethink creativity and individuality.’ To ensure content adheres to safety guidelines, the app employs ShieldGemma to evaluate generated images before they are presented to the user. For optimal results, Google recommends providing detailed text prompts or using photos that include at least the user’s shoulders.

This relaunch marks a significant evolution for Androidify, which was originally introduced in 2011 and retired in 2020. A basic bot builder was released last year, but the current AI-powered version, first previewed at Google I/O 2025, offers significantly more personalized avatars. Beyond its entertainment value, the Androidify app also serves as a showcase for modern Android development best practices, leveraging Jetpack Compose for its Material 3 Expressive UI, Navigation 3 for screen transitions, CameraX for photo capture, and ML Kit Pose Detection and Subject Segmentation APIs.
