TLDR: Google has announced the expansion of its AI Mode in Search to include Hindi language support for users in India and globally. Powered by a custom version of the Gemini 2.5 Pro large language AI model, this update allows for more natural and complex interactions, offering detailed and personalized responses across text, voice, and image inputs. The rollout also includes support for Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese, marking a significant step towards a more inclusive global search experience.
Google has officially rolled out support for the Hindi language in its advanced AI Mode within Google Search, making its generative AI capabilities accessible to a broader audience in India and around the world. The announcement, made on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, signifies a major leap in making search technology more intuitive and locally relevant.
At the heart of this enhanced functionality is Google’s sophisticated custom version of the Gemini 2.5 Pro large language AI model. This powerful AI is engineered to comprehend intricate queries, whether typed, spoken, or even presented through images, and subsequently deliver highly accurate and tailored responses. Users can now engage with Google Search in Hindi in a manner that mimics a natural conversation, moving beyond simple keyword searches to more nuanced and complex interactions.
Initially launched as an experimental feature in English in March 2025, and subsequently rolled out in India in June, the AI Mode has garnered positive feedback for its ability to handle complex queries. The expansion to Hindi is part of a broader initiative that also introduces support for Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese, alongside English. This multilingual push underscores Google’s commitment to building a truly global search experience that transcends mere translation, focusing instead on a deep understanding of local knowledge and context.
Hema Budhraju, VP of Product Management for Search, emphasized the transformative impact of AI on search. “AI is transforming Search to make it more useful and easier than ever to ask Google anything. We’re excited to bring AI mode to Hindi and look forward to seeing how people use it,” she stated. Budhraju further elaborated, “Making Search a great experience for people around the world is about more than just translating. It requires a deep understanding of local knowledge and context, and Gemini 2.5’s advanced multimodal and reasoning capabilities help us understand language better.”
The AI Mode is designed to streamline the search process, allowing users to ask layered questions and receive neatly packaged responses, often eliminating the need for multiple clicks and separate searches. Responses can be presented in simple, easy-to-understand language, comprehensive explanations, or even in summary or table formats for listicles.
