Panaji, Goa – August 24, 2025 – In a significant stride towards its ambitious Goa AI Mission 2027, the state’s Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (DITE&C) has formalized a partnership with the Digital India Bhashini Division (MeitY) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This pivotal collaboration is set to introduce multilingual Artificial Intelligence solutions into Goa’s public systems, ensuring that governance is not only more inclusive but also accessible to citizens across diverse linguistic backgrounds.
The MoU was a highlight of the event titled ‘AI for Governance and Social Impact: Leveraging Technology for Inclusive, Responsible, and Sustainable Public Systems,’ organized by DITE&C in conjunction with the Goa Institute of Management (GIM) and the IndiaAI Mission. The gathering brought together key figures from government, academia, and global industry to deliberate on how AI can bolster governance with principles of inclusivity and sustainability.
Minister for Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, Rohan A. Khaunte, inaugurated the event. He was joined by Shri Kabir Shirgaonkar, Director of DITEC; Dr. Ajit Parulekar, Director of Goa Institute of Management; Shri Amitabh Nag, CEO of DIBD; and Kavita Bhatia, Chief Operating Officer of the IndiaAI Mission, MeitY. Senior officials and Heads of Departments from the Government of Goa were also in attendance.
Minister Khaunte emphasized the human-centric approach of the mission, stating, “We are focusing on capacity building, ethical and responsible AI, and turning innovation into impact, because AI is not just a buzzword; it must remain human-centric. With the Goa AI Mission 2027, we are building skills, empowering startups, creating capital support, and strengthening infrastructure.”
The core vision articulated during the event is to establish Goa as a leading model for how AI can drive inclusive, ethical, and sustainable governance, where technological innovation directly translates into tangible social impact, and every citizen actively participates in the digital economy.
The broader Goa AI Mission 2027, launched earlier, is a strategic blueprint designed to cultivate an inclusive, innovation-driven AI ecosystem within the state, aligning with the Centre’s India AI Mission. Its objectives include empowering citizens, fortifying governance, and stimulating innovation across various sectors. The mission is structured around four foundational pillars: skilling, startups and companies, capital, and government and infrastructure. Initiatives under this mission include integrating AI education into schools and colleges, promoting AI Labs, and developing a Konkani Large Language Model (LLM) to digitally preserve Goa’s rich cultural and linguistic heritage.
