TLDR: Netherlands-based travel technology firm GeniusTravel has successfully raised €2 million in funding to launch and expand its AI-driven app, ‘Genius’. The innovative platform aims to simplify and personalize budget travel planning by offering comprehensive, affordable travel packages tailored to individual preferences.
GeniusTravel, a pioneering travel technology company based in the Netherlands, has announced a significant milestone, securing €2 million in a recent funding round. This investment is earmarked for the rollout and expansion of its flagship AI-powered application, ‘Genius’, designed to transform the landscape of budget-conscious travel.
The brainchild of experienced entrepreneur Gennie Freen, GeniusTravel was founded out of a personal frustration with the complexities of comparing numerous travel platforms, destinations, and prices. Freen’s vision was to create a streamlined solution for discovering and booking affordable trips, leading to the development of Genius – touted as the first AI app offering complete travel packages specifically for budget-minded consumers.
The ‘Genius’ app empowers users to effortlessly curate entire trips, always encompassing flights and accommodation, based on their personal preferences and specified budget. Travelers interact with ‘Genius’, the AI travel agent, via a simple messaging or chat interface to communicate their travel desires. The app then leverages artificial intelligence to automatically generate a personalized selection of travel packages at the most competitive prices. Gennie Freen highlighted the app’s ease of use, stating, “This feature makes finding the most affordable and suitable trip as easy as asking ChatGPT a question.”
Beyond personalized trip creation, Genius also utilizes AI to compile and present the best daily deals across various price points and categories. These include highly attractive options such as short trips under €120 per person (inclusive of flights and accommodation), weekend getaways, excursions to popular destinations like party islands, last-minute departures within one week, and a curated daily top 10 deals list.

Following over three years of dedicated development and extensive beta testing, the ‘Genius’ app is now readily available for free download on both iOS and Android app stores. The recently secured funding, provided by a group of investors who have chosen to remain anonymous, will primarily facilitate the app’s initial launch and expansion within the Netherlands this year, with ambitious plans to penetrate other European markets in the near future. This strategic investment underscores a growing trend in the travel industry towards leveraging AI to enhance efficiency, personalize experiences, and address the challenges of cost-effective travel planning through advanced digital interactions.
