Fujitsu to Revolutionize Japan Pension Service with Advanced Generative AI Chatbot

TLDR: Fujitsu Limited is developing a new AI chatbot for the Japan Pension Service, slated for launch in April 2026. This initiative will integrate generative AI into the existing chatbot to significantly enhance response quality, boost user satisfaction, and streamline staff operations by automating Q&A drafting and providing extensive multilingual support.

Kawasaki, Japan – Fujitsu Limited has announced the commencement of development for an advanced AI chatbot service designed to transform the Japan Pension Service. Set to be operational by April 2026, the new service will integrate cutting-edge generative AI capabilities into the existing chatbot infrastructure, promising a substantial upgrade in public service delivery.

The primary objective of this development is to improve the quality of responses to pension-related consultations and inquiries, elevate user satisfaction, and significantly reduce the workload on the Japan Pension Service staff. The generative AI, a core component of Fujitsu’s Uvance offering, will play a crucial role in automatically drafting Q&A data. This automation is particularly vital for managing frequent updates necessitated by revisions to the pension system, thereby minimizing manual effort and enhancing the accuracy of information provided.

Beyond its core AI functionalities, the service will introduce comprehensive multilingual support starting April 2026. In addition to Japanese, users will be able to access assistance in English, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Vietnamese, and Tagalog. This expansion aims to make pension services more accessible to a broader demographic within Japan.

The Japan Pension Service has been actively exploring the expansion of its digital channels for consultations. This new chatbot builds upon a foundation laid in 2020 when Fujitsu first introduced a chatbot that has since served approximately 600,000 users annually. The previous system, while praised for ease of use, faced challenges with the constant maintenance and updating of Q&A data due to evolving pension regulations. The integration of generative AI directly addresses this pain point, ensuring that information remains current and accurate with reduced human intervention.
