TLDR: Dubai-based fintech Alaan has successfully raised $48 million in a Series A funding round, one of the largest in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region’s history. Led by Peak XV Partners, the investment will fuel Alaan’s expansion into Saudi Arabia and accelerate its focus on AI-driven finance automation, aiming to revolutionize spend management for businesses.
Alaan, a prominent spend management platform for businesses in the Middle East, has announced a significant milestone, securing $48 million in a Series A funding round. This substantial investment marks one of the largest Series A rounds ever recorded in the MENA region, underscoring strong investor confidence in the company’s vision and growth trajectory.
The funding round was spearheaded by Peak XV Partners, formerly known as Sequoia Capital India & SEA. Notable participation also came from the founders of 885 Capital, Sudeep Ramnani and Jai Mahtani, along with contributions from Y Combinator, 468 Capital, and Pioneer Fund. The round was reportedly heavily oversubscribed, encompassing both primary and secondary funding. Additionally, the investment saw support from a roster of leading regional operators, including Hosam Arab (Founder of Tabby), Mudassir Sheikha (Founder of Careem), Jeppe Rindom (Founder of Pleo), Khalid Al Ameri, Abdallah Abu-Sheikh (Founder of Astra Tech), Yi Wei Ang (CPO of Talabat), and Parth Garg (Founder of Aspora).
The newly acquired capital is earmarked to accelerate Alaan’s strategic expansion within Saudi Arabia, a key market for the company. Crucially, a significant portion of the funds will be dedicated to powering the next phase of Alaan’s growth, which is explicitly focused on AI-driven finance automation. This move is set to enhance the platform’s capabilities in streamlining financial operations for businesses across the region.
Since its inception in 2022, Alaan has demonstrated remarkable growth, having processed over 2.5 million transactions. The platform is currently trusted by more than 1500 finance teams at leading companies, including G42, Careem, Tabby, Lulu Group, and Rivoli. The company’s recent launch in Saudi Arabia has been particularly successful, with transaction volumes doubling month-over-month for six consecutive months.
GV Ravishankar, Managing Director at Peak XV, commented on the investment, stating, “The category has demonstrated strong product-market fit in the MENA region, and Alaan stands out as the category leader, demonstrated by their impressive growth trajectory.” He further added, “Parthi, Karun, and the team are a high-energy, execution-focused group. Their customer-centric and product-led mindset from day one has enabled them to build solutions tailored to the needs of modern finance teams. We’re excited to partner with a company that is shaping the future of fintech in the region.”
Sudeep Ramnani, Founder & Managing Partner at 885 Capital, echoed this sentiment, remarking, “Alaan is pioneering a new era of finance for businesses in the Middle East, where automation, transparency, and intelligence power every transaction.”
