Fetch.ai and Internet Computer Unveil NextGen Agents Hackathon for Decentralized AI Development

TLDR: Fetch.ai and Internet Computer have launched the NextGen Agents Hackathon, an AI-powered Web3 event focused on building AI agents directly on a decentralized cloud. The hackathon, which began on August 1, 2025, aims to foster the creation of fully on-chain AI applications, moving away from traditional cloud dependencies. It features a $300,000 prize pool across five tracks, emphasizing the synergy between AI and blockchain technologies.

Fetch.ai and Internet Computer (ICP) have officially launched the NextGen Agents Hackathon, a significant Web3-focused event designed to accelerate the development of AI agents operating directly on decentralized cloud infrastructure. Kicking off on August 1, 2025, this hackathon marks a pivotal step towards enabling AI-powered applications that run entirely on-chain, eliminating the reliance on conventional centralized cloud services.

The collaboration brings together Fetch.ai’s autonomous agent ecosystem, particularly its uAgent framework, with the Internet Computer’s ‘canister’ smart contracts. This synergy allows developers to build and deploy intelligent, autonomous AI agents on Agentverse, an open agent marketplace, and seamlessly integrate them with ICP’s decentralized infrastructure. The initiative underscores a growing trend in Web3, where AI agents are evolving from mere tools into independent actors within the digital economy.

Sana Wajid, Chief Development Officer at Fetch.ai and SVP of Fetch.ai Innovation Lab, stated, ‘This hackathon is a launchpad for the next wave of decentralized intelligence. By combining the global reach and decentralized infrastructure of the Internet Computer with Fetch.ai’s agentic ecosystem, we’re empowering developers to create groundbreaking solutions.’

The hackathon is the inaugural initiative from Fetch.ai’s Innovation Lab in Indonesia and is part of the broader World Computer Hacker League (WCHL) 2025. Participants will compete for a substantial $300,000 prize pool, with winning teams gaining direct entry into the WCHL Regional Round. The competition is structured across five distinct tracks: AI, Bitcoin DeFi, Real-World Assets (RWA), Fully On-Chain, and an Open Track.

Projects will be rigorously evaluated based on their innovative use of Fetch.ai’s tools, their integration with the Internet Computer, technical execution, and their potential for real-world application. The hackathon aims to address critical frontiers in Web3 development, particularly the deployment of intelligent autonomous agents that operate without traditional cloud dependencies, thereby advancing Web3’s core principles and enhancing security for AI agents in areas like identity verification and financial systems through decentralized environments.

Registrations for the hackathon are open from August 1st to August 23rd, 2025, targeting developers globally. The submission window for projects is set from August 13th to August 23rd, 2025. All participating teams will receive hands-on mentorship from engineers at both Fetch.ai and ICP, focusing on best practices for intelligent agent development, on-chain integration, and real-world Web3 deployments.
