Fei-Fei Li’s World Labs Unveils Marble: A New Era of Generative 3D World Models

TLDR: World Labs, co-founded by AI luminary Dr. Fei-Fei Li, has launched Marble, its first commercial generative world model. Marble allows users to create persistent, explorable 3D virtual environments from a single image or text prompt, emphasizing spatial intelligence and geometric consistency. This innovation positions World Labs as a key player in the evolving landscape of generative AI, offering a distinct approach compared to competitors like Google DeepMind’s Genie 3.

World Labs, the innovative spatial intelligence company spearheaded by renowned AI pioneer Dr. Fei-Fei Li, has officially unveiled Marble, its groundbreaking commercial generative world model. Launched in September 2025, Marble represents a significant leap forward in artificial intelligence, focusing on the creation of persistent, navigable 3D virtual worlds from simple inputs such as an image or a text prompt.

Dr. Li, widely recognized for her foundational work on ImageNet and her role as the inaugural Sequoia Professor at Stanford University and co-director of the Human-Centered AI Institute, has long championed the necessity of ‘spatial intelligence’ for AI to truly understand and interact with the physical world. Marble embodies this vision, aiming to push past the limitations of current 2D, language-first AI models by enabling the perception, generation, and interaction within complex 3D environments.

The core capability of Marble lies in its ability to generate complete, freely explorable virtual worlds that maintain high degrees of consistency and geometric coherence. Unlike some generative models where environments might deform or disappear, Marble’s creations are designed to be stable and enduring, allowing users to explore them without time limits. Early beta users have reported that tasks which previously took weeks can now be accomplished in minutes, highlighting the model’s efficiency.

Marble enters a competitive field, notably alongside Google DeepMind’s Genie 3. While both are ‘world models,’ they pursue different technical paths. Marble distinguishes itself by prioritizing the rationality and interconnectedness of spatial structures, generating photorealistic worlds in 1080p that can be explored in real-time. In contrast, Genie 3 focuses more on interactivity and real-time generation of 720p video for shorter durations.

World Labs, established in April 2024, quickly garnered significant investment from prominent Silicon Valley firms like a16z and Radical Ventures, underscoring the industry’s recognition of ‘spatial intelligence’ as a critical new technological direction. The applications for Marble are vast and varied, ranging from creating game assets and environments for virtual reality filmmaking to building virtual sets and stages. Dr. Li envisions an even broader impact, stating, ‘For all of history, humanity shared one 3D world. Spatial intelligence now lets us generate and reconstruct infinite universes for creativity, travel, storytelling, even socialization. It suddenly will enable us to live in a multiverse.’

Currently available in a limited access beta preview at no cost, Marble is primarily designed for generating complete 3D environments rather than isolated objects or individual characters. While impressive, some demo worlds have shown limitations in field of view, with distant areas quickly blurring. Nevertheless, Marble’s launch marks a pivotal moment in the development of generative AI, promising to unlock new dimensions of digital creation and interaction.
