TLDR: Evercore ISI has reiterated its ‘Buy’ rating for Adobe (ADBE), maintaining a $450 price target, despite widespread market skepticism and concerns regarding the slower-than-expected monetization of the company’s generative AI capabilities. This contrasts with recent downgrades from other firms, highlighting a divided analyst view on Adobe’s near-term growth trajectory.
Evercore ISI has reaffirmed its ‘Buy’ rating on Adobe Inc. (NASDAQ:ADBE) shares, even as the software giant navigates significant market skepticism and ongoing concerns about the monetization of its artificial intelligence (AI) innovations. Evercore analyst Kirk Materne maintained a price target of $450 for Adobe, a figure he had previously adjusted from $475 following the company’s Q3 FY 2025 results on September 12.
This bullish stance from Evercore comes amidst a period of heightened scrutiny for Adobe, particularly concerning its generative AI capabilities. While Adobe has heavily invested in these technologies, aiming to boost its Digital Media Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) growth, the pace of monetization has been slower than some analysts anticipated. Adobe’s strategy has reportedly prioritized broader adoption of its AI features over immediate revenue generation, leading to a lag in expected financial returns.
The market’s apprehension is evident in recent analyst actions. On September 24, both Morgan Stanley and Mizuho Securities downgraded Adobe’s stock to ‘Hold,’ citing slower monetization and a lack of near-term catalysts. Morgan Stanley analyst Keith Weiss, who previously held an ‘Overweight’ rating, adjusted his price target sharply from $520 to $450. The firm noted a divergence between the pace of innovation in Adobe’s product portfolio and the Digital Media ARR growth, expressing uncertainty about the net positive impact of GenAI advancements on a sizable portion of Adobe’s ARR base.
Despite these downgrades, Evercore’s Materne believes that Adobe’s current valuation already incorporates a significant amount of uncertainty and doubts regarding its long-term growth prospects. He argues that a shift in investor sentiment will necessitate the company demonstrating tangible results from its AI-led growth initiatives and effectively addressing competitive risks, including those posed by companies like Meta and Google.
