eBay Enhances Seller Experience with Advanced AI Tools as it Celebrates 30 Years

The initiatives, highlighted at the eBay Open conference in Las Vegas, underscore the company’s commitment to leveraging AI to simplify and expedite the selling process, especially on its mobile platform.

A key announcement at the conference is a new AI tool designed to assist sellers in efficiently answering buyer questions, a move expected to enhance customer service and reduce seller workload. This latest addition builds upon eBay’s existing portfolio of AI offerings introduced over the past two years. These include a generative AI video tool, an AI shopping agent, an AI-powered listing tool, an AI background enhancement tool, and an AI-powered bulk listing feature, all designed to make selling more intuitive and less time-consuming.

According to company data as of June 30, eBay boasts 134 million active buyers and millions of sellers worldwide. Since eBay began integrating AI-based selling tools in 2023, over 10 million unique sellers have utilized at least one of these AI features, such as listing description assistants and photo-editing tools, to create more than 200 million listings. Impressively, approximately 500,000 listings are crafted daily on eBay with the assistance of AI. A company spokesperson, Zhang, emphasized the transformative potential, stating, ‘AI can help create some leapfrog opportunities for us — things that, traditionally, we weren’t able to deliver.’

One of the most impactful recent developments is the updated flow for listing creation on mobile devices, which leverages eBay’s ‘magical listing tool.’ This AI-powered feature has reportedly reduced the total steps required to create listings by 50%, significantly cutting down listing times. This streamlined experience is currently rolling out in the U.S., U.K., and Germany, following successful early testing in the U.K.

Beyond listing simplification, eBay’s AI strategy encompasses several other areas to empower sellers. These include automated content enrichment, where AI generates detailed and accurate product descriptions for both human shoppers and AI algorithms; competitive pricing strategies, providing sellers with real-time insights into pricing trends; and data-driven insights, offering granular data on how AI agents interact with listings.
