E2B Secures $21 Million to Advance Cloud Infrastructure for AI Agents

TLDR: E2B, formerly FoundryLabs Inc., has successfully raised $21 million in Series A funding to develop and expand its open-source cloud infrastructure specifically designed for AI agents. This investment, led by Insight Partners, aims to provide secure, scalable, and highly performant sandboxed environments for AI agents to execute complex tasks, addressing the limitations of existing cloud infrastructure not built for agentic use.

SAN FRANCISCO – E2B, a pioneering provider of open-source cloud infrastructure tailored for artificial intelligence agents, announced today a significant milestone with the successful closure of a $21 million Series A funding round. The investment was spearheaded by global software investor Insight Partners, with additional participation from Decibel, Sunflower Capital, and Kaya, alongside notable angel investors including Scott Johnston, former CEO of Docker.

This substantial capital injection will empower E2B to accelerate the expansion of its cloud infrastructure offerings, enhance open-source interoperability with other infrastructure providers, and scale its enterprise-focused engineering and go-to-market teams globally. The funding underscores E2B’s strategic vision to establish dedicated infrastructure for AI agents, featuring secure and safe sandboxes that can rapidly deploy and provide advanced computer-use capabilities for agents to undertake intricate, multi-step tasks.

E2B’s innovative approach has already garnered significant traction, with 88% of Fortune 100 companies reportedly signed up to leverage its platform. The company’s impressive client roster includes leading AI innovators such as Hugging Face, Perplexity, Groq, and Manus, in addition to top foundation model providers and other Fortune 100 enterprises. These organizations utilize E2B’s sandboxed cloud environments to run secure, complex agentic workflows, which in turn reduce deployment times, bolster security, and accelerate innovation.

Vasek Mlejnsky, Co-founder and CEO of E2B, highlighted the critical need for such infrastructure: ‘The expectations we have from AI agents in the enterprise are great. However, we expect them to scale and perform on legacy infrastructure not designed for agentic use.’ He further elaborated, ‘E2B solves this by equipping AI agents with safe, scalable, highly performant cloud infrastructure as well as tools that help agents scale in production.’ Mlejnsky also stated, ‘The future of enterprise productivity is agent-driven. Our goal is to provide the standard runtime infrastructure for this new era of work.’

E2B plans to solidify its open-source sandbox protocol as a universal standard and further develop enterprise-grade modules, including a secrets vault for secure credential management, sandbox observability for real-time monitoring and compliance, and shared context for persistent, collaborative state management. The company aims to provide a standardized interface allowing AI agents to seamlessly control and interact with diverse sandbox environments, ranging from Linux interpreters and Windows VMs to Chrome browsers, and operate across various infrastructures like Kubernetes, Google Cloud, Azure, AWS, Cloudflare, or in-house VPCs.
