AI Agents Attract Soaring Global Capital Investment, Signaling Transformative Market Growth

TLDR: Global capital investment in AI agents has seen a dramatic surge, with projects securing $1.39 billion in funding so far in 2025, marking a significant increase from previous years. This surge reflects growing investor confidence in autonomous, on-chain agents as they evolve from experimental concepts to foundational elements of Web3 and enterprise software. Experts predict the AI agent market could reach a trillion-dollar valuation by 2028.

Global capital investment in AI agents has experienced an unprecedented boom, with funding reaching $1.39 billion in the first half of 2025 alone. This substantial influx of capital underscores a profound shift in investor confidence, as autonomous, on-chain agents transition from nascent, experimental concepts to critical components of the Web3 ecosystem and enterprise software.

According to a recent report by DappRadar, the $1.39 billion secured by AI agent projects in 2025 represents a notable increase from the previous year. This momentum positions AI agents to potentially attract more capital than any other Web3 vertical by the end of 2025, signaling a deeper transformation in how decentralized systems are utilized. The report highlights that on-chain activity related to AI has surged by 86% since the beginning of 2025, with daily unique active wallets reaching approximately 4.5 million. This growth has propelled AI’s market share to 19%, nearly matching gaming’s 20% dominance within the sector, a significant leap from its 9% share at the start of the year.

Further emphasizing this trend, a Morgan Stanley report titled ‘AI Agents Knocking at the Door’ projects that the agentic AI space could drive a nearly trillion-dollar market by 2028. These intelligent agents, defined as autonomous software entities capable of planning, adapting, and executing multi-step tasks using tools, memory, and real-time data, are poised to revolutionize enterprise software and digital workflows by increasingly replacing human decision-making in complex processes. While the market is conservatively estimated at $6 billion in narrow AI automation terms, it could expand to $20 billion by 2028. In a broader context, encompassing system-wide automation and SaaS integration, the opportunity swells to $102 billion, with the most expansive view suggesting a path to a trillion-dollar valuation across the entire software application layer.

Major players in the tech industry are expected to be key beneficiaries of this growth. Hyperscalers such as Microsoft, Amazon AWS, and Google Cloud are projected to capture the largest share of value due to their dominance in compute infrastructure. Model builders like OpenAI and Anthropic are also set to benefit significantly as they roll out agent-centric SDKs and platforms. Other sectors poised for growth include workflow automation (e.g., ServiceNow, Atlassian), data infrastructure (e.g., Snowflake, Palantir), and security and governance (e.g., Okta, Cloudflare, CyberArk).

Geographically, AI dapp usage between January and June 2025 has been most prominent in Europe, accounting for over 26% of total sessions, followed by Asia with 21.9%, and North America with 15.8%. This global spread, including a significant ‘Other’ category representing anonymous sources and less commonly tracked regions, indicates widespread adoption of AI dapps.
