Duolingo Elevates 2025 Revenue Outlook, Citing AI-Driven User Engagement

TLDR: Duolingo has significantly raised its 2025 revenue forecast, attributing the optimistic outlook to the successful integration of AI-powered features that have substantially boosted user engagement, particularly within its premium subscription offerings. The company’s strategic focus on AI, despite a slight impact on gross margins, is driving growth and exceeding analyst expectations.

Pittsburgh, PA – Language learning giant Duolingo Inc. (NASDAQ: DUOL) has announced a robust increase in its revenue forecast for 2025, a move largely credited to the enhanced user engagement fueled by its advanced artificial intelligence (AI) tools. The company now projects an annual revenue between $962.5 million and $978.5 million for 2025, surpassing Wall Street’s average analyst expectation of $965.9 million. This positive revision follows strong performance, including a first-quarter 2025 revenue forecast ranging from $220.5 million to $223.5 million, slightly above the $221.1 million average expectation.

The surge in engagement is primarily driven by Duolingo’s AI-powered features, notably within its premium subscription tiers. The ‘Max option,’ for instance, leverages generative AI to provide users with natural conversation practice, significantly enhancing the learning experience. This integration of AI has been instrumental in boosting premium subscription adoption.

While the implementation of AI enhancements has led to a marginal dent in the gross margin by approximately 100 basis points, the company views this as a strategic investment that underscores its commitment to rapid innovation and sustained user engagement.

In its second quarter of 2025, Duolingo reported impressive financial results, with earnings per share (EPS) reaching $0.91 against a consensus of $0.55. The company also saw a 41% increase in overall revenue growth and a 46% gain in subscription revenue, achieving record profitability.

Further expanding its offerings and bolstering user engagement, Duolingo recently acquired the London-based music-gaming team from NextBeat. This acquisition is set to broaden Duolingo’s non-language offerings, indicating a strategic diversification beyond its core language learning platform.
