MUMBAI: Disrptve Communications, an Indian integrated communications marketing agency known for its focus on blending creativity and technology, has unveiled a groundbreaking storytelling asset for Delhi-based designer Sarab Khanijou’s couture brand, DHUN. The AI-crafted asset, ‘DHUN — A Melody in Motion,’ aims to present Khanijou’s hand-embroidered craftsmanship through the innovative lens of generative artificial intelligence.
The project signifies a deeper dive by Disrptve Communications into transforming the perception of a tangible sector like couture into an immersive digital visual narrative, all while maintaining the fundamental essence of the craft. The agency’s in-house tech and creative divisions meticulously worked to ensure that every frame of the digital asset resonated with the rhythm and originality inherent in Khanijou’s collection.
The development process began with a highly detailed photo capture framework, engineered by Disrptve’s tech team. This framework ensured optimal lighting and uniformity across each garment, resulting in numerous high-resolution images that effectively captured the intricate depth of embroidery, sequins, and the natural movement of the fabric. These extensive captures were then utilized to train custom lightweight AI models, known as LoRAs, enabling the generation of unique visual and textural outputs.
Fortified with these bespoke AI models, Disrptve’s creative team developed several mood-driven compositions, drawing inspiration from DHUN’s core themes of rhythm, heritage, and motion. Employing a proprietary workflow that integrates Flux and advanced inpainting techniques, Disrptve successfully recreated the garments with impeccable precision. This meticulous approach ensured that the emotional resonance of the couture remained intact, even as its perception was elevated through AI.
Chetan Chopra, Chief Business Officer at Disrptve Communications, commented on the initiative, stating, “It has been an honour to work on Sarab’s unique project in telling the tale of couture’s timeless heritage through modern-day AI’s lens. What we achieved with DHUN is more than mere digital enhancement but a contemporary way of storytelling where AI doesn’t replace creativity but refines it. We’re enabling designers to visualise their craft in ways that were previously not thought of.”
Initially, designer Sarab Khanijou expressed skepticism about the integration of AI with couture. However, upon witnessing the final results, he was profoundly moved. Khanijou remarked, “Seeing the photos and videos, I was convinced I made the right choice. The Disrptve team has brought to life a contemporary flavour of age-old Indian traditional wear design.”
