TLDR: Ravi Kumar S, CEO of Cognizant, has been named to the prestigious 2025 TIME 100 AI list, acknowledging his significant contributions and visionary leadership in advancing enterprise artificial intelligence. Under his guidance, Cognizant has made a billion-dollar commitment to AI, launched innovative platforms like Agent Foundry, and achieved a Guinness World Record for the largest generative AI hackathon, emphasizing AI’s role in democratizing expertise and fostering ‘sentient enterprises’.
Ravi Kumar S, the Chief Executive Officer of Cognizant, has been honored with a coveted spot on the 2025 TIME 100 AI list, a recognition that underscores his profound impact and forward-thinking leadership in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence. The announcement, made on August 28, 2025, highlights Kumar’s dedication to reimagining and advancing the AI-frontier enterprise.
Under Kumar’s visionary leadership, Cognizant, a global firm with approximately 350,000 employees and revenues around $35 billion, has made substantial strides in AI innovation. A cornerstone of this commitment is a $1 billion pledge made in 2023 to accelerate enterprise AI capabilities.
Kumar envisions a future where AI-led organizations evolve into ‘sentient enterprises’ – less hierarchical, more networked systems that continuously adapt. These entities, powered by ‘agentic AI’ and guided by a ‘human in the loop,’ are designed to democratize expertise and expand access, particularly for early-career talent. He likens this model to a ‘supercharged Hollywood model,’ where agile, project-based teams form around shared missions and reconfigure as priorities shift.
Cognizant’s initiatives under Kumar’s direction include the launch of its Agent Foundry platform, enabling enterprises to build AI agents at scale. The company has also secured 59 AI-led patents and joined the White House’s AI education initiative.
Driving AI literacy and innovation across its vast workforce, Cognizant’s innovation program, Bluebolt, has generated over 500,000 employee ideas for AI use cases. Furthermore, its global Synapse skilling initiative, aimed at training individuals in generative AI and advanced technologies, has nearly doubled its goal, now targeting 2 million trainees.
A notable achievement this summer was Cognizant’s hosting of the world’s largest online generative AI hackathon. This ‘vibe coding’ event, where users provide plain language instructions for AI models to write code, saw participation from over 50,000 employees and contractors across 40 countries. It earned a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the most participants in an online generative AI hackathon, producing more than 30,000 prototype projects.
Stephen J. Rohleder, Chair of Cognizant’s Board of Directors, lauded Kumar’s accomplishment, stating, “Congratulations to Ravi, what a terrific accomplishment – for him personally and for Cognizant. Ravi’s dynamic voice and vision, combined with Cognizant’s investments in talent, platforms and AI infrastructure, are a significant reason why the Company has returned to the winner’s circle.”
Kumar’s influence extends beyond Cognizant, as he actively shapes the AI landscape through various roles, including as a member of the Board of the US Chamber of Commerce and Chair of its AI Working Committee, on the Board of the US India Strategic Partnership Forum, and as Chair of the Information Technology and Communications forum of the World Economic Forum.
