Dallas, TX – Centersquare, a prominent provider of advanced data center colocation facilities across North America and the U.K., has announced a significant expansion of its infrastructure with the acquisition of 10 additional data centers across the United States and Canada. The deals, valued at a total enterprise of $1 billion, were self-funded using ‘cash on hand,’ according to the company. This strategic investment boosts Centersquare’s total portfolio to 80 facilities, substantially increasing its capacity to support high-density computing workloads critical for the burgeoning artificial intelligence (AI) era.
The newly acquired facilities are located in key markets including Dallas, Boston, Minneapolis, Tulsa, Nashville, Raleigh, Toronto, and Montreal. Notably, the acquisition includes two data centers in Boston and Minneapolis that Centersquare had previously operated under long-term lease agreements.
Centersquare emphasizes that this expansion is a direct response to the ‘unprecedented demands’ placed on data center operators by the accelerating adoption of AI. The company is focusing on providing scalable, energy-efficient, and resilient infrastructure capable of handling GPU-intensive workloads that drive generative AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics.
Spencer Mullee, CEO of Centersquare, commented on the acquisitions, stating, ‘This package of acquisitions represents more than just volume growth. Centersquare was established in January 2024 through the merger of Dallas-based Evoque Data Center Solutions and Florida’s Cyxtera Technologies, both owned by Brookfield Infrastructure Partners. The company subsequently rebranded as Centersquare in April 2024. The move underscores a broader industry trend where data center providers are rapidly adapting to the specialized and intensive requirements of AI workloads, which can demand significantly higher power and cooling per rack compared to traditional computing infrastructure.
