Brunei Intensifies Digital Capacity and Cybersecurity Defenses Through Strategic Initiatives

TLDR: Brunei Darussalam is actively strengthening its digital infrastructure and cybersecurity posture through a multi-faceted approach. This includes robust institutional frameworks, evolving legislation such as the Cybersecurity Act 2023, and significant regional collaborations. Key initiatives like STACK 2025 and the Cyber Revolution Summit 2025 are central to these efforts, fostering innovation, public-private partnerships, and national capacity-building to counter escalating digital risks and cyber threats. Companies like Dell Technologies are also contributing solutions to safeguard businesses.

Brunei Darussalam is making significant strides in fortifying its digital capacity and cybersecurity defenses, adopting a proactive and comprehensive strategy to build resilience against the escalating landscape of digital risks and cyber threats. This national endeavor is underpinned by robust institutional frameworks, progressive legislative developments like the Cybersecurity Act 2023, and strategic regional collaborations.

Central to Brunei’s commitment to a secure digital future are major events such as STACK 2025 and the Cyber Revolution Summit 2025. Cyber Security Brunei (CSB) is spearheading STACK 2025, a national platform running from June 23 to 25, 2025, at The An-Naura Hall, Yayasan SHHB Complex. This event, part of the broader Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE) 2025, aims to promote innovation, collaboration, and shared responsibilities across all sectors to strengthen Brunei’s digital resilience. STACK 2025 brings together policymakers, industry experts, students, educators, and technology innovators to explore the intersections of digital transformation, cybersecurity, and national capacity-building through five signature events. Highlights include ‘ID-Novate,’ a six-day hackathon focused on digital identity and verifiable credentials, and the ‘Robotics and Coding Conquest 2025,’ an AI and IoT-focused robotics showcase and competition aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, featuring innovators from Brunei, Malaysia, and South Korea. Other sessions include a Vulnerability Management Workshop and Roundtable with Huawei Technologies, and an awareness session on Child Online Protection (COP) for policymakers.

Further bolstering these efforts, the Cyber Revolution Summit – Brunei, organized by TraiCon Events, is scheduled for June 17, 2025, at The Centrepoint Hotel. This premier event is designed to unite over 200 pre-qualified delegates, including CISOs, CIOs, IT Security Heads, Risk Managers, and Government Officials, to address critical cybersecurity challenges. The summit serves as a strategic platform for fostering collaborative cybersecurity frameworks, public-private partnerships, and policy innovation, emphasizing national cyber readiness. Discussions at the summit will cover crucial topics such as cyber resilience, risk management, the role of AI in security, threat intelligence, and data privacy.

These initiatives align with the broader national vision outlined in the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025 and the AITI Strategic Plan 2020-2025. The Digital Economy Masterplan 2025, with its vision of ‘Smart Nation through Digital Transformation,’ guides Brunei’s commitment to developing its digital sector for economic diversification, innovation, and the creation of a digitally-skilled workforce. The AITI Strategic Plan 2020-2025 focuses on driving the development of the digital industry and ubiquitous digital connectivity to realize digitally-enriched businesses and societies, in alignment with Wawasan Brunei 2035.

The nation recognizes the increasing complexity of the cyber landscape, driven by geopolitical tensions, integrated supply chains, and the rapid adoption of emerging technologies. The importance of a collective responsibility for cyber resilience is underscored, with organizations of all sizes working together to fortify interconnected networks. Companies such as Dell Technologies are also contributing solutions to safeguard businesses, playing a vital role in this national push for enhanced digital security.
