Accra, Ghana – British Columbia College, a prominent institution in creative and innovative education in Ghana, hosted its 9th Graduation and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, June 28, 2025. The vibrant event, held at the college’s premises in Madina Estate, Accra, served as a platform to advocate for the crucial role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in contemporary education and future career landscapes.
The ceremony, chaired by Professor Sampson Effah Apreku, CEO of Samara Group of Companies, centered on the theme, ‘Navigating the AI Revolution: Preparing Graduates for a Changing World.’ This theme underscored the college’s commitment to equipping its students with the foresight and skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven global economy.
Mr. Richard Kwesi Shiangbor, Director of Programmes at the British Council, delivered a compelling speech on behalf of the Country Director, Nii Dodoo Doodo. He emphasized the imperative for graduates to prioritize AI, describing it as a ‘game changer.’ Mr. Shiangbor advised the graduating class, stating, ‘Let artificial intelligence be your partner, not your rival. Use it to elevate your ideas, your empathy, and your ability to make a meaningful difference.’ His words resonated with the audience, highlighting AI’s potential as a collaborative tool for innovation and societal betterment.
Cecil Mends, the Principal of British Columbia College, Ghana, also addressed the graduates, commending them for the essential qualities of confidence, courage, and motivation instilled by the college. He encouraged them to leverage these attributes as they pursue higher education and strive to address societal challenges. ‘Today, your goal may be to get the best college education you can. Tomorrow, it may be career advancement or even devoting your talents to giving back to society through service. Nothing is impossible if you set your mind to it,’ Mr. Mends inspired, reinforcing the college’s holistic approach to education.
A highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of Mastin Tamba Saah, an international student from Sierra Leone, who was named the Valedictorian for the 2025 Graduating Class. Saah’s exceptional academic achievement was further celebrated with a prestigious US$40,000 Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) scholarship, enabling him to pursue Business Administration at Brock University in Canada.
