This agreement will see Box’s agentic AI capabilities integrated into federal government operations, marking a pivotal step towards greater efficiency and automation for federal agencies.
The deal falls under the GSA’s new OneGov purchasing strategy, which provides standardized, discounted terms for government agencies, eliminating the need for individual negotiations. This streamlined procurement process is designed to accelerate the deployment of cutting-edge technologies across the government.
Box AI, described by the company as an ‘intelligent content management platform,’ will be made available to government agencies. The platform is designed to assist federal users in various ways, including ‘generating complex insights across files/folders,’ ‘extracting metadata at a massive scale,’ and ‘automating repeatable tasks with easy to build AI agents.’ This represents a strategic pivot for Box, which has evolved from primarily a cloud storage provider to a company focused on enabling organizations to leverage AI for deeper data understanding.
Notably, Box has not developed its own foundational AI models. Instead, it has adopted a collaborative approach, embedding models from a diverse array of leading AI companies within its Box AI suite. These include prominent names such as OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. Furthermore, Box has indicated that AI models from IBM, Amazon, Meta, and xAI will also be accessible through its platform, offering federal agencies a wide spectrum of AI functionalities.
The comprehensive suite of Box AI capabilities is expected to support agencies with ‘AI powered workflows, compliant content management, e-signature, forms, document generation,’ and enhanced collaboration features.
