TLDR: Booking.com has rolled out a suite of new AI-powered features, including Smart Filter, Property Q&A, and Review Summaries, designed to streamline the travel planning process. These innovations leverage generative AI to offer more personalized and efficient solutions, helping users find ideal accommodations and make informed booking decisions with greater ease.
Booking.com, a global leader in digital travel, is significantly enhancing its platform with the introduction of advanced AI-powered features aimed at making travel planning more intuitive and personalized. The new tools, which include Smart Filter, Property Q&A, and Review Summaries, harness the power of Generative AI (GenAI) to simplify key steps in the trip planning journey.
One of the standout features is the Smart Filter, which allows travelers to describe their ideal property in natural language. For instance, a user could type, ‘Hotels in Amsterdam with a gym, rooftop bar, and canal views.’ The GenAI then scans Booking.com’s extensive inventory to automatically apply the most relevant filters, eliminating the need for manual selection and delivering a tailored list of properties that match specific preferences. This innovation is set to save users considerable time and effort in their search.
Another key addition is Property Q&A, which empowers travelers to ask specific questions about a property, such as ‘Are there EV charging stations onsite?’ or ‘Does the hotel accept large dogs?’ The AI instantly retrieves relevant information from the property listing, traveler reviews, and photos, providing concise and curated answers. This feature enables customers to quickly evaluate if a property meets their needs, fostering more confident booking decisions.
Booking.com is also actively testing Review Summaries, a feature designed to distill essential insights from numerous guest reviews. This tool will provide key information about a property without requiring travelers to browse through extensive feedback, highlighting aspects like parking availability or wheelchair accessibility. This aims to further optimize the decision-making process for users.
These new features build upon Booking.com’s existing AI capabilities, including the AI Trip Planner, which was initially launched in June 2023. The Trip Planner assists travelers in creating itineraries, asking about destinations, and navigating their trips. The Smart Filter and Property Q&A features are currently available to users in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore via the mobile app. Review Summaries are expected to roll out more broadly after further testing and optimization.

He added, ‘With GenAI, we’re not just enhancing the trip planning process — we’re facilitating more tailored experiences that adapt and respond to travelers’ needs faster than ever before.’ Looking ahead, Futty also indicated that generative AI could assist travelers with real-time solutions for issues like flight cancellations, further integrating AI into the entire travel management process. This expansion aligns with a broader industry trend of increasing AI adoption within the travel sector to enhance customer experiences.
