Batam Set to Host Asia’s First Quantum AI Data Center, Bolstering Indonesia’s Digital Future

TLDR: Indonesia is poised to become a regional leader in advanced digital infrastructure with the development of Asia’s first quantum artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Batam. This landmark US$400 million investment, formalized through a partnership between Silicon Valley’s Worldvuer iByond Limited and Tunas Prima Industrial Estate, aims to significantly enhance the nation’s capabilities in AI, quantum computing, and data processing within a green industrial zone.

Indonesia is making a significant stride towards establishing itself as a regional powerhouse in advanced digital infrastructure with the announcement of Asia’s first quantum artificial intelligence (AI) data center. This ambitious project, slated for development in Batam, Riau Islands, represents a substantial investment of US$400 million, according to statements from the Indonesian Ministry of Investment and Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM). The initiative is set to propel Indonesia’s capabilities in AI, quantum computing, and high-speed data processing to new heights.

The formalization of this strategic partnership occurred on July 9, 2025, between Silicon Valley-based technology firm Worldvuer iByond Limited and Tunas Prima Industrial Estate in Jakarta. Todotua Pasaribu, Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming and Deputy Head of BKPM, emphasized the project’s importance, stating, ‘The digital economy, particularly data centers, is a key pillar to achieve this. Indonesia has tremendous potential in this sector and we are ready to be a key partner in building Asia’s digital future.’

The chosen location for this cutting-edge facility is the Tunas Prima Industrial Estate in Batam, a designated green industrial zone. This area is equipped with sustainable infrastructure, including renewable energy solutions such as solar panels and independent water treatment systems, aligning with global trends towards environmentally conscious development. The industrial estate has a proven track record of attracting significant global manufacturers, including Apple, underscoring its strategic appeal.

Worldvuer iByond Limited will deploy its Vovea iByond Operating System within the data center, a technology renowned for integrating quantum computing, AI, and big data analytics. This advanced system is designed to deliver processing speeds and capacities far exceeding those of traditional data centers, positioning Indonesia at the forefront of technological innovation in the region. The company is also actively exploring further collaborations within Indonesia’s energy and telecommunications sectors, drawing parallels to its existing partnership with Aramco in Saudi Arabia and seeking engagement with entities like Telkom Group and the Ministry of Communication and Digital.

This investment marks Indonesia’s strategic entry into the global quantum computing race, a field previously dominated by technological giants such as China, the United States, and Japan. The economic implications are substantial, with AI technology alone projected to contribute up to US$366 billion annually to Indonesia’s GDP by 2030. This significant potential economic gain justifies the government’s robust incentives for foundational infrastructure projects like the Batam data center, solidifying Indonesia’s ambition to become a pivotal technological hub in Asia.
