AWS Unveils AgentCore Platform to Accelerate Enterprise AI Agent Deployment

TLDR: Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced AgentCore, a comprehensive managed platform designed to bridge the critical gap between experimental AI agent prototypes and production-ready enterprise applications. It offers seven integrated services to simplify the deployment, management, and scaling of AI agents, addressing key challenges like infrastructure complexity, security, and operational overhead.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the launch of AgentCore, a new managed platform aimed at significantly accelerating the transition of AI agent prototypes into robust, production-grade enterprise applications. The move comes as organizations increasingly experiment with AI agents but often struggle with the complexities of deploying them at scale, citing infrastructure limitations, security concerns, and operational challenges.

AgentCore is AWS’s strategic response to this critical market need, positioning the cloud giant to capture a substantial share of enterprise spending as companies move beyond pilot projects toward serious production deployment. The platform is a meticulously crafted suite of seven integrated services, designed to function either independently or in concert, forming a comprehensive ecosystem for AI agent management.

Key components of the AgentCore platform include:

AgentCore Runtime: Provides serverless execution environments with complete session isolation, boasting an industry-leading eight-hour duration for complex asynchronous workloads and low latency for interactive experiences.

AgentCore Memory: Manages both fleeting conversational context and crucial long-term retention of knowledge across sessions, enabling agents to evolve, adapt, and improve performance over time without requiring infrastructure management.

AgentCore Gateway: Simplifies tool integration and discoverability, allowing developers to convert existing APIs and services into Model Context Protocol (MCP)-compatible tools with minimal code.

AgentCore Browser Tool: Offers a secure, cloud-based browser runtime, enabling agents to interact with web-based services and perform complex web tasks.

AgentCore Code Interpreter: Provides a secure, sandbox environment for agents to execute code across multiple languages.

AgentCore Observability: Delivers real-time visibility into end-to-end agent execution and key operational metrics through dashboards powered by Amazon CloudWatch, with OpenTelemetry compatibility.

AgentCore Identity: Allows users to invoke agents by integrating with existing identity providers such as Amazon Cognito, Microsoft Entra ID, and Okta, and enables agents to securely access AWS resources and third-party tools and services.

According to Swami Sivasubramanian, AWS VP for Agentic AI, who led the keynote at the AWS Summit in New York, AgentCore is designed to help developers bridge the critical gap between proof of concept and production for AI agents. The platform’s emphasis on security, scalability, and observability directly addresses core enterprise requirements that have historically limited AI agent adoption. Its framework-agnostic approach is a significant advantage, allowing it to work with any model—in or outside of Amazon Bedrock—and any open-source agent framework, eliminating the trade-off between open-source flexibility and enterprise-grade security.

AWS is also bolstering its commitment to agentic AI development with an additional $100 million investment in the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center. This investment aims to further boost agentic AI development and deployment, underscoring AWS’s long-term vision for the technology. The preview of Amazon Bedrock AgentCore is currently available in the US East (N. Virginia) region, marking a significant step towards democratizing AI agent deployment for businesses of all sizes.
