AWS Launches AgentCore to Propel Enterprise AI Adoption, Bolstering Production Deployment

TLDR: Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced AgentCore, a comprehensive platform designed to accelerate the deployment and operation of secure AI agents at enterprise scale. This initiative, coupled with an additional $100 million investment in the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center, aims to bridge the critical gap between AI prototypes and production-ready solutions, addressing common challenges in enterprise AI adoption.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is making significant strides in accelerating enterprise AI adoption with the unveiling of AgentCore, a new managed platform aimed at streamlining the transition of AI agent prototypes into production-ready applications. Announced at the AWS Summit in New York, this strategic move addresses the persistent challenge organizations face in deploying AI at scale, moving beyond experimental phases to impactful, real-world applications.

Swami Sivasubramanian, AWS VP for Agentic AI, emphasized the transformative potential of AI agents, stating, ‘It’s a tectonic change in a few dimensions. It upends the way software is built. It also introduces a host of new challenges to deploying and operating it, and potentially most impactfully, it changes how software interacts with the world—and how we interact with software.’ AWS CEO Matt Garman echoed this sentiment, envisioning a technological shift as profound as the advent of the internet.

AgentCore provides a complete suite of seven core services designed to deploy and operate highly effective AI agents securely at enterprise scale. These services tackle infrastructure complexities, offering secure, serverless runtimes, memory systems, and robust security controls. A key differentiator for AgentCore is its flexibility, allowing organizations to utilize any foundation model, including those hosted outside Amazon Bedrock, a contrast to more ecosystem-locked solutions like Google’s Vertex AI Agent Builder or Microsoft’s Azure AI Foundry Agent Services. This framework-agnostic approach supports open-source frameworks such as Strands Agents, LangChain, CrewAI, and LlamaIndex.

Despite the rapid pace of AI innovation, Gartner has warned that up to 40% of AI agent projects could fail by 2027 due to high costs and unclear return on investment. AWS aims to counteract this by helping customers achieve higher success rates. While only about 30% of AI experiments typically make it to production, AWS has helped its customers increase this to over 50%. Francessca Vasquez, AWS VP, highlighted that success hinges on strong business cases and AI-oriented leadership, noting, ‘The companies that may be progressing further, they’ve got a leadership team who believes in the pace of technology, or they’ve got senior technical thought leaders on their board. That makes a very big difference.’

To further accelerate development and deployment, AWS announced an additional $100 million investment in its Generative AI Innovation Center, doubling its commitment. This center has already empowered thousands of customers, including NFL, Yahoo Finance, BMW, and AstraZeneca, to achieve significant productivity gains and transform customer experiences. Examples of early successes include AstraZeneca accelerating healthcare insight discovery, Yahoo Finance transforming financial research, and Syngenta revolutionizing agriculture with AI-driven precision farming.

Beyond the technology, AWS emphasizes the critical role of culture and talent strategies. Vasquez noted, ‘It’s more than just the technology of models and latency and tokens. It’s also about the people and the culture and what experiences you want.’ Successful AI adoption requires rethinking team workflows and fostering an environment that embraces new technologies.

In a move to simplify enterprise AI agent adoption, AWS also unveiled a new AI Agents and Tools category in AWS Marketplace. This centralized catalog allows businesses to discover, buy, deploy, and manage AI agents and tools from leading providers, streamlining the process of integrating AI solutions into their operations. With these comprehensive offerings, AWS is positioning itself as a pivotal enabler for organizations looking to harness the full potential of AI agents securely and at scale.
