This strategic move underscores the escalating demand for AI capabilities and the critical need for robust domestic infrastructure to support frontier AI development.
The initial phase of this ambitious project will see the construction of custom-built data centers in Texas and New York. Anthropic has partnered with Fluidstack, a London-based AI cloud platform specializing in large-scale graphics processing unit (GPU) clusters, to bring these facilities to fruition. According to Anthropic, these data centers are “custom-built for Anthropic with a focus on maximizing efficiency for our workloads, enabling continued research and development at the frontier.”
This significant investment is expected to be a major job creator, with projections indicating approximately 2,400 construction jobs and an additional 800 permanent positions once the centers become operational. The first sites are anticipated to go live throughout 2026, with more locations expected to follow.
Anthropic’s CEO and co-founder, Dario Amodei, emphasized the necessity of this infrastructure, stating, “We’re getting closer to AI that can accelerate scientific discovery and help solve complex problems in ways that weren’t possible before. Realizing that potential requires infrastructure that can support continued development at the frontier.” He added, “These sites will help us build more capable AI systems that can drive those breakthroughs, while creating American jobs.”
The company highlighted that this investment aligns with the Trump administration’s AI Action Plan, which aims to maintain American leadership in artificial intelligence and strengthen domestic technology infrastructure. Gary Wu, co-founder and CEO of Fluidstack, expressed pride in the partnership, noting, “Fluidstack was built for this moment.
