Kapoor, who previously served as Meta’s Director for Media Partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region, will be responsible for overseeing the broadcaster’s adoption of AI, driving audience growth, and fostering a more data-led approach within the organization.
Deborah Turness, CEO of BBC News, emphasized the critical nature of Kapoor’s role in transforming BBC News for the future. Turness stated that the aim is to leverage AI to enhance journalism and specifically grow audiences, particularly among those under 25. She highlighted Kapoor’s extensive knowledge of news operations, her forward-thinking approach to AI, and her deep understanding of product and platforms as key attributes that make her uniquely qualified for this leadership position.
Kapoor’s career prior to Meta includes senior leadership roles at prominent media organizations such as The Globe and Mail, Yahoo!, and Bloomberg Media. Her experience in partnering with media organizations to boost audience and revenue growth will be instrumental in her new role at the BBC.
