AI powerhouse SenseTime has announced a substantial capital raise, securing approximately HK$2.5 billion, equivalent to $320 million, through a placement of 1.667 billion new Class B shares. The subscription, which took place after trading hours on Wednesday, saw long-term investor Infini Capital agreeing to back the deal. This marks a pivotal strategic move for the company, as it confirmed that 20% of the net proceeds, roughly HK$500 million, will be dedicated to new ventures in blockchain, stablecoins, Real World Assets (RWAs), and embodied intelligent robotics.
This latest fundraising effort signifies a notable shift in SenseTime’s strategic direction. Historically, the company has concentrated primarily on computer vision, generative AI, and the development of model training infrastructure. However, with the increasing momentum of digital assets and tokenized economies, SenseTime is now actively exploring new verticals where its core AI capabilities can be seamlessly integrated with on-chain ecosystems. The company intends to explore potential synergies between AI and blockchain, suggesting future deployments in areas such as tokenized assets, AI-driven compliance solutions, and real-time data analysis for digital financial instruments.
Financially, each new share was issued at HK$1.50, bringing the total subscription value to HK$2.5 billion. This subscription accounts for approximately 4.5% of the company’s total issued shares. Guotai Junan Securities and CLSA Securities served as the placing agents for the transaction. After deducting associated fees, the net proceeds from the placement stand at approximately HK$2.498 billion. SenseTime confirmed that the deal was executed under a general mandate, though it remains subject to approval from both shareholders and regulatory bodies.

This is SenseTime’s second major fundraising initiative within the past year. In December 2024, the company successfully placed nearly 1.9 billion shares, raising HK$2.787 billion. That capital was primarily utilized to enhance its AI cloud infrastructure and support the ongoing development of large-scale generative AI models. The funds from the current placement are expected to complement these existing efforts, with the new emphasis on blockchain underscoring a broader vision to position SenseTime at the forefront of the intersection between artificial intelligence and decentralized finance.
