African Development Bank Champions AI Training to Accelerate Continent’s Development Under Agenda 2063

TLDR: The African Development Bank (AfDB) is spearheading a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) training initiative for officials from African Union member states. This five-day workshop, held in Lusaka, Zambia, aims to equip participants with AI tools and digital innovations to enhance the monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of the Second Ten-Year Plan (2024–2033) of Agenda 2063. The initiative underscores the Bank’s commitment to leveraging AI for evidence-based policy development and accelerating Africa’s development goals.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has announced its robust support for a groundbreaking Artificial Intelligence (AI) training initiative designed to significantly advance the implementation of Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want, the continent’s ambitious development blueprint. This strategic move, facilitated through the Bank’s Joint Secretariat Support Office (JSSO), involves providing crucial technical and financial backing for the 5th Annual Training Workshop for African Union Member States.

The intensive five-day workshop, which recently concluded in Lusaka, Zambia, was a collaborative effort between the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF). It convened representatives from various African Union Member States with the primary objective of bolstering their technical capabilities in utilizing AI tools and digital innovations. The training specifically focuses on improving the monitoring, tracking, and reporting mechanisms for the Second Ten-Year Plan (2024–2033) of Agenda 2063.

Participants engaged in practical sessions exploring a range of emerging AI platforms, including Ailyse, ChatGPT, Google AI Studio, Google Gemini, and Perplexity. The curriculum was meticulously designed to demonstrate how these advanced tools can revolutionize data analysis, enhance decision-making processes, and foster evidence-based policy development, all in alignment with Agenda 2063’s priorities.

This initiative is part of a broader continental effort to strengthen institutional and human capacity. The integration of AI is seen as a critical step in modernizing how data is collected, analyzed, and reported, thereby enabling more targeted policy interventions and optimizing resource allocation across Africa. The African Development Bank’s involvement in this workshop reflects its unwavering commitment to promoting results-based planning, monitoring, and accountability within the African Union framework. Furthermore, it highlights the Bank’s dedication to championing innovation and digital transformation as pivotal enablers for Africa’s overarching development agenda.
