Pure Storage Elevates Data Management with Enhanced Intelligent Control Plane and AI-Powered Security

TLDR: Pure Storage has unveiled significant enhancements to its Intelligent Control Plane (ICP) and introduced an AI Copilot, aiming to provide more intelligent and secure data management across on-premises and cloud environments. These advancements, announced at the Pure Accelerate 2025 event, focus on real-time workload awareness, natural language-driven management, and robust cyber resilience, positioning Pure Storage to capitalize on the growing demands of the AI era.

Pure Storage, a leader in enterprise storage platforms, has announced a suite of advancements to its control plane and security offerings, designed to empower organizations with more intelligent and secure data management capabilities. These innovations, revealed at the Pure Accelerate 2025 event, underscore the company’s commitment to maintaining its top position in the market, as recognized by Gartner’s latest Enterprise Storage Platform Magic Quadrant. Wedbush analyst Matt Bryson noted that ‘AI is forcing enterprises to rethink data architectures, creating a window for Pure to take share from incumbents.’

At the core of these announcements is the evolution of Pure’s Intelligent Control Plane (ICP). This unified control layer now boasts real-time awareness of applications and workloads across a customer’s entire fleet of Pure Storage arrays, spanning both on-premises infrastructure and public cloud instances. The ICP can proactively identify overburdened arrays and orchestrate workload movements to alleviate stress, ensuring optimal performance and resource utilization. It enforces management through policies with presets for various workloads, streamlining operational complexity.

A significant highlight is the introduction of the AI Copilot within the cloud-based Pure1 management feature. This AI Copilot integrates with the Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling natural language-using AI agents to connect and allowing administrative staff to manage workloads across a Pure fleet using intuitive natural language commands. Pure Storage’s AI Copilot functions as both an MCP server and client, providing visibility into anomalies, facilitating threat detection, and even taking proactive actions.

Rob Lee, Pure CTO, emphasized the critical role of data in the current technological landscape, stating, ‘In today’s AI era, access to data is everything. Managing your data, not just storing it, is the new foundation for AI-readiness from cloud to core to edge. Success depends on having your data secure everywhere, and easily accessible anywhere, with a unified and consistent experience – in real time, at scale, across any workload.’

Cyber resilience has also received a major boost. Pure Storage is providing native threat detection capabilities directly at the storage layer, offering built-in security assessments and a cyber-recovery Service Level Agreement (SLA). Customers can leverage Pure’s Log Center to investigate insider threats and anomalous user access. Furthermore, the platform now includes real-time malware scanning with ICAP (Internet Content Adaptation Protocol) and a dedicated file workload anti-virus capability, significantly enhancing data protection against evolving cyber threats.

These advancements are part of Pure Storage’s broader Enterprise Data Cloud (EDC) architecture, which aims to unify data management across on-premises, public cloud, and hybrid environments. Built on Pure Fusion, the EDC provides a unified architecture and operating model for end-to-end data control, automation, and cyber resilience. This approach manages block, file, and object data through policy, with every system and site contributing capacity and performance via a shared virtual layer, all controllable from a single console.

The company’s innovations in 2025 are structured around three critical areas: automation through Pure Fusion for unified resource management, performance scaling with next-generation FlashArray and FlashBlade offerings, and enhanced security through strategic integrations with cybersecurity partners like Rubrik and CrowdStrike. The integration of Portworx with Pure Fusion, generally available in H1 FY27, further bridges the gap between traditional and modern applications, extending fleet management capabilities to containerized cloud-native applications and Kubevirt-based VMs.
