TLDR: Google has announced that its cutting-edge AI video generation tool, Veo 3, will be accessible to all users for free for a limited time, specifically over the weekend of August 23, 2025. This initiative, shared by Google CEO Sundar Pichai, allows individuals to create AI-powered videos directly via the Gemini app.
Google has made a significant announcement, opening up its advanced generative AI video tool, Veo 3, for free use by all users for a limited duration. The offer, which commenced on Friday, August 23, 2025, is valid until 10 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2025, with some reports indicating a return to exclusivity for Gemini Pro users after 10 p.m. on Sunday, August 24. This move was personally announced by Google CEO Sundar Pichai on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, encouraging everyone to explore the capabilities of the tool.
Veo 3, first unveiled at Google I/O 2025 in May, was previously available only to paid subscribers, typically those with a Gemini Pro subscription or the broader Google AI Pro plan. The tool empowers users to generate short, realistic videos from simple text prompts, capable of producing a diverse range of content from animated shorts and cinematic sequences to detailed storyboards. Users can access this functionality directly through the Gemini app, available on both Android and iOS platforms.
To ensure a seamless experience for the anticipated influx of free users, Google has reportedly deployed ‘a load of TPUs’ (Tensor Processing Units), its custom-designed AI accelerators, to provide uninterrupted access. The company aims to showcase the power and accessibility of its AI advancements to a broader audience. Veo 3 is positioned as a direct competitor to other prominent AI video generation platforms, such as OpenAI’s Sora.ai and PerplexityAI, highlighting Google’s commitment to leading in the generative AI space.

Furthermore, Google has also rolled out the Veo 3 Fast model in India, which is designed to generate videos at an accelerated rate, catering to the specific needs of the Indian market. This limited-time free access is distinct from another ongoing offer where Google provides a 1-year free AI Pro plan to eligible students in India, which also includes access to Veo 3 among other AI tools.
