IITPSA Invites Nominations for 2025 President’s Awards, Emphasizing Excellence in an AI-Driven Era

The Institute of Information Technology Professionals South Africa (IITPSA) has officially opened nominations for its highly anticipated 2025 President’s Awards. These awards are designed to honor outstanding individuals within the South African Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector, celebrating their visionary leadership, innovative contributions, and overall impact on the profession. A key theme for the 2025 awards is ‘excellence in an AI-driven world,’ underscoring the profound influence of artificial intelligence on industries, work, and society at large.

Pearl Pasi, President of the IITPSA, emphasized the critical role of these awards in acknowledging those who not only demonstrate technical prowess but also navigate the evolving technological landscape with integrity and purpose. ‘Technology, and in particular AI, is accelerating at an unprecedented pace, creating new opportunities, challenges and ethical considerations,’ Pasi stated. ‘The IITPSA President’s Awards honour those who not only excel technically, but also lead with integrity and purpose in navigating this landscape.’

The awards are open to individuals who have significantly contributed to the ICT profession in South Africa through various avenues, including leadership, innovation, teaching, research, or community engagement. Several established categories will recognize diverse achievements:

Visionary CIO Award: This award celebrates a Chief Information Officer who has showcased exceptional leadership in leveraging IT to support, expand, and transform business operations, or who has set benchmarks in implementing technology solutions within an organization.

Technology Excellence Award: This accolade is presented to an individual or team for their exceptional or innovative use of technology, delivering measurable benefits to an organization or the South African economy.

Dynamism in ICT Youth Award: Aimed at recognizing young talent, this award honors individuals under the age of 25 who have demonstrated exceptional potential or achievement in ICT. Nominees can be students excelling in STEM, young entrepreneurs, or emerging IT professionals, typically nominated by educators, employers, colleagues, or mentors.

Fellowship of the Institute Award: This award acknowledges long-serving individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the IITPSA institute or the ICT profession as a whole.

In a significant addition for 2025, the IITPSA Women in IT Chapter has introduced the Woman in IT Excellence Award. This new category is specifically designed to recognize professional excellence, ethical leadership, mentorship, and a steadfast commitment to transforming the ICT sector, with a particular focus on enhancing the visibility and participation of women.

Previous winners from the 2024 awards included Nomonde White-Ndlovu, CIO of Bidvest, and Cinga Nyangintsimbi, founder and MD of Batsamayi Software Development, highlighting the caliber of professionals recognized by these awards.
