Samsung Unveils Smarter Bixby Voice Assistant for 2025 Smart TVs, Revolutionizing AI Search

TLDR: Samsung has rolled out a significant update to its Bixby voice assistant for its 2025 Smart TV lineup, leveraging Generative AI to offer a more natural, conversational, and personalized user experience. The enhanced Bixby allows users to effortlessly search for on-screen content, ask general knowledge questions, and seamlessly control SmartThings-enabled home appliances directly through voice commands, transforming the TV into a central smart home hub.

Samsung Electronics has announced a major enhancement to its AI-powered Bixby feature, rolling out an update to its 2025 Smart TV lineup, including Neo QLED, OLED, The Frame, and QLED models. This upgrade introduces a more advanced Bixby voice assistant, designed to make information discovery and TV interaction significantly more natural, intuitive, and seamless for users. The update began rolling out in South Korea and is set to expand to global markets in phases, with initial availability noted in the US, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.

At the core of this advancement is the integration of Generative AI, which empowers Bixby to deliver a highly conversational and personalized experience. Users can now easily activate Bixby by voice or by pressing the mic button, initiating a conversation without the need for specific commands, navigating menus, or typing. The smarter Bixby is capable of understanding context and follow-up questions, facilitating fluid interactions that mimic real conversations.

Hun Lee, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation, stating, “Samsung has led the global TV market for 19 consecutive years, and we continue to raise the bar by delivering meaningful innovation that enhances everyday experiences. With a smarter Bixby, we focused on making AI practical, helping viewers connect with content in smarter, more natural ways.”

The enhanced Bixby significantly improves the on-screen search experience. Users can ask Bixby about actors, shows, or broader topics related to what they are watching and receive instant answers directly on their TV, without interrupting their viewing flow. Beyond on-screen content, Bixby can also answer general knowledge questions, such as “How tall is Mount Everest?”, or provide recommendations like “Please suggest chill playlists for a rainy day.” It can even assist with everyday queries like “Tell me the recipe for making pasta,” by retrieving contextual responses using external information. This integration into “Click to Search” makes content exploration more efficient and interactive.

Furthermore, the smarter Bixby extends its capabilities to effortless home device management through Samsung’s SmartThings ecosystem. Equipped with the upgraded Bixby, Samsung TVs can detect, connect, and control SmartThings-enabled appliances. Users can leverage their TV as a central hub for smart home management, executing voice commands such as “Turn off the oven now” or “Set the air conditioner to 25 degrees” directly through their screen.

Samsung has also ensured the security of user data, with Bixby being secured by Samsung Knox, an industry-leading security solution designed to protect sensitive personal information. Importantly, no user voice data is stored on servers or TVs, addressing privacy concerns.

Building on this integration, Samsung plans to introduce a newly upgraded version of Vision AI in October 2025. This evolved Vision AI will be available through Samsung’s 7-year free Tizen OS Upgrade program, ensuring ongoing software enhancements and long-term support for compatible devices.
