TLDR: Malaysia is set to launch its National Cloud Computing Policy (NCCP) on August 13, 2025, during the ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit 2025 (AAIMS25). The policy aims to strengthen national cloud infrastructure, ensure secure data governance, and accelerate cloud technology adoption, serving as a foundational enabler for AI and digital innovation.
Malaysia is poised to introduce its pivotal National Cloud Computing Policy (NCCP) on August 13, 2025. This significant launch will take place in conjunction with the ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit 2025 (AAIMS25), a landmark event scheduled from August 12 to 13 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur.
The NCCP, to be officially launched by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, outlines Malaysia’s strategic vision for its digital future. According to Digital Ministry secretary-general Fabian Bigar, the policy is designed to bolster national cloud infrastructure, foster trusted and secure data governance, and accelerate the widespread adoption of cloud technologies across both public and private sectors. Bigar emphasized that the NCCP is a ‘foundational enabler for AI and digital innovation,’ setting the stage for a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready digital economy.
The AAIMS25, the first-of-its-kind regional convergence, is specifically designed to catalyze collaboration, governance, and innovation in artificial intelligence across Southeast Asia. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to deliver the keynote address during the summit’s opening ceremony on August 12. The summit will serve as a high-level platform to harmonize national strategies, align data governance standards, and unlock cross-border innovation opportunities, with discussions spanning AI sovereignty, innovation, regulatory harmonization, digital public infrastructure, and talent development.
Malaysia’s national AI agenda, built on principles of inclusion, innovation, and integrity, is set to be scaled to a regional level as Malaysia assumes the ASEAN chairmanship in 2025. This aligns with the ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025 and the ASEAN Guide on AI Governance and Ethics. The summit will advance regional discussions on AI governance, translating existing frameworks into concrete regional actions to ensure AI development and deployment are innovative, safe, fair, and accountable.
Since its establishment in December 2024, the National AI Office (NAIO) has championed Malaysia’s AI agenda, focusing on strengthening AI innovation, collaboration, governance, infrastructure, and talent development in alignment with regional goals. The AAIMS25 is expected to draw over 1,500 regional delegates and more than 150 exhibitors, featuring an ASEAN AI Trade Show, ministerial roundtables, youth forums, and exclusive showcases of AI use cases in critical sectors like healthcare, education, agriculture, and fintech.

This initiative comes as AI is projected to add nearly US$1 trillion to Southeast Asia’s economy by 2030, with Malaysia emerging as a significant hub for AI infrastructure. Major investments are already underway, including Oracle’s plan to invest over US$6.5 billion to expand its AI and cloud computing capabilities in Malaysia, and AWS’s commitment of MYR 29.2 billion (US$6.2 billion) through 2038 for its upcoming Asia Pacific (Malaysia) Region, which will provide local data residency and low-latency access to advanced AI and generative AI technologies.
