WRTN AI Platform Forges Strategic Alliance with NPU Innovator FuriosaAI

TLDR: South Korean AI platform WRTN has announced a strategic partnership with FuriosaAI, a leading developer of Neural Processing Units (NPUs). This collaboration aims to enhance AI capabilities and accelerate the development of advanced AI solutions, particularly in the realm of generative AI and on-premises AI infrastructure.

WRTN, a prominent South Korean AI platform known for its user-friendly interface and focus on personalized AI experiences, has officially entered into a strategic partnership with FuriosaAI, a key player in the NPU (Neural Processing Unit) manufacturing sector. This alliance, announced on August 1, 2025, signifies a significant step towards bolstering South Korea’s domestic AI ecosystem and reducing reliance on foreign AI semiconductor technology.

FuriosaAI specializes in designing high-performance, power-efficient AI accelerators, or NPUs, which are crucial for demanding AI workloads such as computer vision, generative AI, and large language models (LLMs). Their next-generation NPU, RNGD, developed in collaboration with Taiwan’s Global Unichip Corporation (GUC) and TSMC, leverages cutting-edge technology including HBM3 memory and a 5nm process node. RNGD is designed to excel in large-scale model inference, offering competitive performance and a reported 100% power efficiency advantage over Nvidia’s H100 GPUs. FuriosaAI has already seen its RNGD chip integrated into LG AI Research’s infrastructure, aiming to reduce dependency on Nvidia chips.

WRTN, established in 2021, has rapidly grown to become a leading generative AI service in Korea, boasting over 1 million monthly active users. The platform aims to be a “mega AI platform” by curating diverse LLM models and AI applications, offering services for free, and supporting multimodal AI that integrates various data types like images, text, and audio. WRTN’s proprietary system, KLAUD, intelligently selects the most suitable LLM for users from a range of options, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4 and Naver’s Clova X, based on user requests. The company has also secured significant funding, including a pre-series B round of 25 billion won (approximately $18.3 million USD) in June 2024, to fuel its expansion into overseas markets like Japan, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

This partnership between WRTN and FuriosaAI is expected to create synergies by combining WRTN’s accessible AI platform with FuriosaAI’s powerful NPU technology. While specific details of the collaboration were not immediately available, it is anticipated to focus on optimizing WRTN’s AI services for FuriosaAI’s NPUs, potentially leading to more efficient and powerful AI applications for users. This collaboration also aligns with South Korea’s broader goal of achieving self-reliance in the AI industry, particularly in the face of global supply shortages and rising prices for AI semiconductors dominated by foreign companies like Nvidia. The move is a testament to the growing strength and innovation within South Korea’s domestic AI software and hardware sectors.
