Leading PC Manufacturers Unveil Next-Generation AI-Powered Laptops in Summer Refresh

TLDR: Lenovo, Dell, and Microsoft have launched new AI-powered laptops as part of their summer PC refresh. Dell’s Pro Max line, featuring Nvidia Blackwell RTX 5000 chips, is designed for demanding AI workloads, while Microsoft Surface and Lenovo also introduce new models. This refresh aims to capitalize on the growing interest in AI capabilities and the impending end-of-life for Windows 10.

The summer of 2025 marks a significant refresh in the personal computing landscape, with industry giants Lenovo, Dell Technologies, and Microsoft debuting a new wave of AI-powered laptops. This strategic rollout aims to capture a surge in new device purchases ahead of the fall season, driven by both the impending end-of-life for Windows 10 in October—which necessitates upgrades to newer operating systems—and a burgeoning interest in on-device artificial intelligence capabilities.

Dell Technologies is at the forefront of this refresh with its newly simplified product lineup, including the introduction of the Dell Pro Max line of AI PC offerings. A standout model in this series is an 18-inch behemoth, weighing 7.17 pounds, engineered for heavy AI workloads. When maxed out, this machine runs on a 280-watt power brick, fueling an Intel Core Ultra 9 285H processor with a substantial 128 GB of memory and an Nvidia RTX Blackwell 5000 chip boasting 24 GB of video RAM. Dell touts a 44 percent graphics improvement over the previous generation, enabling advanced AI tasks such as model training, deep learning, and large-scale data analytics directly on the device. Bob Venero, CEO of Future Tech, a Dell Global Titanium partner, emphasized the cost-saving potential of such devices: “If you can move stuff to the edge, the compute, the GPU, all of those things, you’re going to have more productivity. And you’ve got cost savings that’s associated with it, versus, ‘Hey, I’m going to stand up an AI factory…'”

Beyond the Pro Max 18 Plus, Dell also introduced the Pro Max 16 Premium, designed for intensive graphics workloads, offering a 23 percent boost in graphics performance. These models feature Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285H Enterprise chips, up to 64 GB of RAM, 4 TB of flash storage, and Nvidia’s RTX Pro 3000 chip with 12 GB of video RAM. Dell’s broader Pro lineup, including Pro, Pro Plus, and Pro Premium notebooks, incorporates Intel Core Ultra (Series 2, V, and U SKUs) and AMD Ryzen processor options, all featuring an NPU, CPU, and GPU for powerful on-device AI and Copilot+ PC experiences.

Lenovo has partnered with Google to introduce what is described as their most powerful Chromebook to date, while Microsoft’s Surface line has focused on light and nimble designs. The integration of AI capabilities is a central theme across all new offerings. Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture, capable of thousands of AI TOPS (trillions of operations per second), is a key enabler for these new systems, supporting technologies like DLSS 4 super-scaling, which uses machine learning to predict and generate additional frames. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has stated, “Neural rendering is the future of computer graphics.”
